Sitka String Quartet
February 23 @ 7:30 pm–9:30 pm PST

Selkirk Pro-Musica presents the Sitka String Quartet, 7:30pm, Thursday, February 23 at St. Saviours Anglican Church, 701 Ward St., Nelson. Tickets will be available at Otter Books in Nelson as of February 9. All four members of the Sitka Quartet are full-time, tenured musicians with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The Quartet consists of: Cassandra Bequary, violin, Karen Gerbrecht, violin, Emilie Grimes, viola, and Olivia Blander, cello. The members also serve on the faculty of the VSO School of Music, with some additional teaching at UBC. Violinist, Karen Gerbrecht describes the program: “We’ve been mindful to represent important, topical music by living women composers: Shaw, Vrebalov and Montgomery. Throughout the program your audiences will be guided to the development of folk music as a form of “cultural citizenship”. It’s a compelling and beautiful program — we’re thrilled to be able to perform these challenging works.”
