Doukohbors gather on Peter’s Day (Petrov Den’) to commemorate the Burning of Arms, which took place in Russia in 1895. The Burning of Arms event ultimately reaffirmed the Doukhobors’ commitment to pacifism as many Doukhobors laid whatever weaponry they owned in a community bonfire. At the DDC, Peter’s Day is observed through a community gathering, featuring the singing of hymns, as well as a vegetarian picnic lunch, and an afternoon speaker series.
