Memorial Concert: A Celebration of Marty Horswill in Music
November 12, 2022 @ 7:30 pm–9:00 pm PST
On November 12th, Echo Vocal Arts Alliance (formerly the Amy Ferguson Institute) will present a 1- hour concert in memory of one of its founding members, Marty Horswill.
Marty Horswill was active in the arts community in Nelson for decades, and in particular with the singing and choral community as an accomplished baritone. In addition to his role as a founding member and director of the Amy Ferguson Institute, he was a member of the Nelson Choral Society and Cottonwood Choir, and often performed as a soloist in numerous musical events, including opera, musical theatre, and choral concerts. He was the driving force as a producer behind the world premieres of the operas KHAOS and Jorinda, as well as other musical events. Marty Horswill passed away suddently in the Fall of 2020, and Echo Vocal Arts Alliance seeks to honour his memory with a concert presented by local musicians who shared many musical experiences with Marty over many years. Local singers and choral directors, Allison Girvan, Kathleen Neudorf, and Noémi Kiss, as well as the Marty Horswill Memorial Choir assembled specifically for this event, will perform works by Karl Jenkins, Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, the Wailin’ Jennys, Serena Ryder, and others. Admission is by donation, and the concert will take place at the Nelson United Church at 7:30 pm on November 12th. Audience members are strongly encouraged to wear masks while in the venue.
