Larry: Candice Roberts

February 3, 2023 @ 7:00 pm8:00 pm PST

Trail & District Arts Council brings you LARRY by award-winning Canadian Clown Artist Candice Roberts on February 3 at The Bailey Theatre.LARRY sees Candice Roberts assume her alter ego, Larry, in a complex, fearless, and very funny portrait of a small-town Canadian dude on a path of self-discovery. Larry tries to be a woke feminist without compromising his masculinity, so that he can prove that he’s worthy of a good woman, can quit drinkin’ and even take up “medertation”. Bold, smart and outrageously funny, it turns out that LARRY’s journey into his own psyche uncovers more than he expected.

Roberts uses LARRY to explore her experiences growing up as a female in rural BC, Canada in the 1980s. Culled from the socially dominant, homophobic male archetypes that surrounded her during her upbringing, Larry helps her compassionately and hilariously examine the limitations of the gender binary, and the complexity of what it means to be human.Trailer https://youtu.be/dagelL_AMdQ.Created and performed by: Candice RobertsDramaturg, Direction and Clown Coaching by: Sonia Norris and Deanna FleysherRated: 18+ Nudity, Course Language, StrobeWINNER: Critic’s Pick for Outstanding New Work Orlando Winter Fest 2020WINNER: Edmonton’s Artist’s Pick of the Fringe 2019WINNER: Artistic Risk Award Vancouver Fringe 2019WINNER: Pick of the Fringe Vancouver 2019WINNER: Best of the Fests FRINGE ENCORE SERIES 2019 – Soho New York“A masterful, weird, poignant, gut-busting, vulnerable, and thought-provoking tour de force from Candy Bones Theatre”- Cincinnati Fringe“A bare-bones, outrageously funny send-up and exploration of gender, gender roles, masculinity, stereotypes and affirmation”– René Grayre, Show-score, NYC“This is a daring, weird, hilarious show with head banging, so basically everything you could want.” —the Georgia Straight“A fearless performer”– CBCWith funding support from the BC Arts Council, the Government of British Columbia, and the BC Touring Council.
