At 8:30pm, after a 30 minute intermission where refreshments are available the Best of GIRAF18 program of award winning short animation from around the world begins. GIRAF is Calgary’s annual festival of innovative animated films.
One of the film’s screening in the all-ages program is TINY, a contemplative film which tells the story of ‘Nakwaxda’xw Elder Colleen Hemphill’s childhood. TINY was presented with the inaugural Elevate Award at Vancouvers DOXA Festival. The jurors applauded the film’s innovative use of stop motion animation and the filmmaker’s caring celebration of elder Colleen Hemphill and the lands and waters of Alert Bay. The jury is excited to amplify the diverse stories and storytellers that brought this film to life.
Kootenay Moving Pictures aims to annually present outstanding films being made regionally as well as inspiring films from afar.
