55. Cindy Joveski Art
Landscape paintings; bird & animal paintings; mixed media; acrylics

Hi everyone, my name is Cindy Joveski. I am thrilled to be a part of the Columbia Basin Culture Tour this year. I have a lovely covered front deck where I will be displaying some of my artwork. Visitors will also be able to shop my private studio. I have a large collection of artworks of many sizes and will be preparing a new collection for the tour.
My artwork is inspired by my love of the Kootenays and the Lardeau Valley, where I spent most of my childhood. I would like to invite everyone for a cool glass of iced tea and a chance to see me at work creating one of my hummingbird paintings. I have also invited Marg McCouley (Fine Art by Bandy) to join us. Marg will be demonstrating her amazing pine-needle basket weaving. I can’t wait to see you!

56. Multifarious Textiles Etc.
Hand-dyed & -sewn textiles

After years of enjoying a variety of arts and activities, I decided to return to school – the Kootenay School of the Arts – and expand on what I already knew. There was so much to learn and so many things to try! I’ve carried on in my own little studio space and continue to try new things and venture into the creativity that is endless. Between the textures of materials and the variety of gorgeous colours, there is no end to what a person can create.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of dyeing with natural dyes on silk, linen and cotton. The creation of floral gift bags with a hammering process is one that can be challenging and yet can draw amazement at the results.
I’ve also returned to sewing with both commercial material and material I have hand-dyed.
The studio will be open for sales if anything strikes your fancy.
So come and see my creations and some of the wonderful textile processes that exist and enjoy a visit.

57. Kate Anderson
Pastel; acrylic; oil paintings

Come and visit me on The Middle Rd. and enjoy a stroll about the garden, viewing artwork and relaxing amongst the ponds and waterfalls. All paintings are for sale.
I like to think that my paintings draw people because I offer a unique way to visualize thoughts and emotions. I am intrigued by the interplay of colour and light and love the challenge of trying to mix colours to incorporate this. This act of painting is both meditative and reflective, offering me an opportunity to experience the creative flow and find a sense of peace and fulfillment.
The wonderous scenes I once painted have been incorporated into realistic images from my memory and imagination. It is a way that I can explore and communicate the beauty and complexity of my surroundings by capturing moods and moments that resonate with me. I’m inspired by natural beauty and sometimes work outdoors to create en plein air paintings that I continue to improve on in the studio during the winters. This has been a process of growth and learning, refining techniques and developing my own style through painting. I seek to connect with others by evoking and sharing my view of the world with my use of pastels, oil and acrylic paints.

59. etcetera
Handmade jewellery; upcycled accessories; scrap-fabric crafts; repurposer

Having tried my hand at many creative pursuits, today my focus is on sewing and repurposing ordinary items into whimsical jewellery and handmade gifts.
Many years ago, I came upon a box of old keys at an estate sale. I was captivated by their shapes and the stories they could tell. I wanted to transform these beauties into something that could again be appreciated. The idea of them becoming a favourite necklace had my heart racing.
From old keys, I transformed grandma’s buttons into charm bracelets. Broken watches became earrings, crystal chandeliers turned into amulets, and old pennies became birth-year keepsakes.
A former quilter, I have turned countless pieces of fabric into special keepsakes. Never to let a scrap go to waste, I challenge myself to piece and create items far beyond quilts, such as a tea cozy, eyeglass case or wall hanging.
When you visit, I will be sewing scraps together to eventually stitch into finished products. You will meet Clara, my 1951 Singer Featherweight sewing machine. I will have on hand finished fabric items and repurposed jewellery to purchase. I can even make some custom penny earrings for you in the years of your choosing.

My photography consists of portraits of dolls in-situ found in antique stores and flea markets throughout Canada. These portraits inspire a narrative that leads me to explore the dolls’ histories and their stories.

62. Grant Palfenier
Multimedia; print; cards; box art

We look forward to seeing you at our friendly, welcoming, fun venue with three very different-media artists.
My life has always included some art form as an anchor and only in recent years have I delighted in sharing it with friends and the general public. Two days full of discussion, feedback and commentary about art is a soul-feeding, gratifying experience.
This year, my work will include lino and low-impact printing, collaging and eclectic box art, but as always typically characterized as unconventional.
During the tour, I’ll display a range of works from my collection. Most will be available for purchase in case you fall in love with one on the spot!

The Lardeau Valley Historical Society was founded in 1978 and plays an active role in the Lardeau Valley. We are dedicated to protecting and preserving both the culture and history of the Lardeau Valley. In the mid-1990s, we obtained the historic Gerrard Fishery building and moved it to Meadow Creek, where it serves as our museum. Our educational themes include Indigenous cultures, hunting/trapping, mining, forestry and lumber industry, farming and the pioneer lifestyle. We have a small archive, including a large collection of digital photographs.
The Lardeau Valley Historical Society proactively respects the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of our West Kootenay region. Specifically, we acknowledge our residency on unceded lands and waters traditionally occupied by Ktunaxa and Sinixt Indigenous Peoples.
