SUMMARY:John Reischmann and The Jaybirds
DESCRIPTION:Like the powerful mandolinist and composer at its helm\, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year\, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations\, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned\, sophisticated and stripped-down\, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary. \n\n\nBluegrass Unlimited calls John Reischman “one of the world’s undisputed masters” of the mandolin\, famed for outstanding tone and taste. Many of his dozens of original instrumentals have become popular favourites for sessions and covers\, such as the jam standard Saltspring. He has three critically-acclaimed solo instrumental albums and has recorded on many other projects\, including the Grammy-winning True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe. John also plays Latin-based jazz and choro music with highly regarded finger-style acoustic guitarist/composer John Miller; the duo has released three superb albums. \n\nThe Langham is proud to host this incredibly talented group of musicians for their live show at the Theatre on April 5th. Don’t miss it!

SUMMARY:NIGHT CITY w/ DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, & JAKOB
DESCRIPTION:Join DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, and JAKOB for NIGHT CITY Saturday April 19th at the Oxygen Art Centre. This dance event takes its name from the neon-soaked urban sprawl featured in William Gibson’s seminal novel Neuromancer. Night City is a chaotic\, hyper-commercialized metropolis where shadowy corporations dominate\, technology permeates every aspect of life\, and the streets pulse with danger and opportunity. This event aims to capture the essence of that world—a fusion of cutting-edge technology\, rebellion\, and underground culture. The soundtrack will feature vintage and contemporary releases from the genres of acid\, darkwave\, ebm\, electro\, industrial\, and techno\, all with a distinctly dark retro futuristic sound.\nNIGHT CITY pays homage to the cultural and social influence of cyberpunk\, a subgenre of science fiction literature. Cyberpunk reflects many of our anxieties about late-stage capitalism\, depicting dystopian worlds where powerful corporations and wealthy elites exploit technology to control society and accumulate profits. However\, it also showcases hope where underground resistance utilizes that same technology to fight back. This duality of technology as both oppressor and liberator is one of cyberpunk’s core messages. Similarly\, electronic music genres like darkwave\, ebm\, industrial\, and techno emerged as forms of cultural resistance. These underground styles reject commercialism\, celebrating non-conformity\, and rebellion. Both cyberpunk and these musical movements create spaces for freedom and liberation in a profit-driven world. \nLocation: Oxygen Art Centre \nAddress: 320 Vernon St Unit-3 (alley entrance)\, Sinixt təmxʷúlaʔx (Nelson\, BC) \nDate: Saturday April 19\, 2025 \nTime: Doors at 9:30pm\, Show at 10pm \nTickets: $20 advance (link in bio)\, $25 door \nDJs: \nDOSE. @dose.productions \nEMERENCZ @emerencz \nJAKOB @jakobsounds \n-No forms of bigotry\, harassment\, or hate will be tolerated\n-Consent is mandatory\n-Celebrate responsibly\n-Please contact us if you have any accessibility requirements\n-Capacity is limited\, secure your spot in advance\n-No one turned away for lack of funds (pwyc) \n#cyberpunk #film #acid #darkwave #ebm #electro #industrial #techno
