SUMMARY:Unfurl Your Wings
DESCRIPTION:“UNFURL YOUR WINGS” AT THE KOOTENAY RIVER AUDITORIUM OCT. 23Join three American/Canadian choirs in a choral theater performance encouraging us all to “Unfurl our Wings”.  Songs\, photography\, artwork\, and poetry combine to celebrate freedom\, feathers\, and flight.  Performances are Fri. Oct. 21 at 7 pm at the Pearl Theater on Ash Street in Bonners Ferry\, Sat. Oct. 22 at 2 pm also at the Pearl Theater\, and Sun. Oct. 23 at 2 pm at the Kootenay River Auditorium at the secondary school in Creston\, B.C.  Tickets are $12 US or $15 CA at the door.The three choirs include SPIRITSONG women’s ensemble\, and the BOUNDLESS men’s and women’s ensembles. All three are conducted by Vicki Blake Thompson from Bonners Ferry and accompanied by Monte Anderson and Lorraine Smith\, both from Creston. Members of all three ensembles have performed in many international choral festivals with Vicki Blake Thompson\, including among others\, Iceland\, Greece\, Tanzania\, Costa Rica\, Ireland\, Austria\, and China. BOUNDLESS also performed in Carnegie Hall in NY with other international choirs. Their next festival tour is being planned for Cuba in Nov. of 2023.The music includes both popular tunes like “Blackbird”\,  “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked”\, “The Wind Beneath my Wings”\,  and “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from “Les Miserables” as well as contemporary choral works like “Fly to Paradise” by Eric Whitacre\, “Lark Ascending” by Linda Spevacek\, and two works by Canadian composer Sarah Quartel.The artwork\, poetry\, and photography amplify the lyrics of the songs and tie the program together into a theatrical experience. It is created to take the audience on a journey and inspire us all to find the freedom needed to “Unfurl our Wings”.

DESCRIPTION:Until October 29 the Early Childhood Pedagogy Network of BC\, along with Selkirk College and Exploration Station Child Care are excited to share an exhibit of children’s exploration of charcoal.Through a repeated invitation of charcoal the children have investigated patterns\, movement\, relationships\, and collaborative art processes.We invite you to participate in a collective response to the children’s work and share patterns you have noticed in our community. As a trained actor\, singer\, and dancer\, Shayna brings to life each tale with full embodiment\, filling an entire stage with vocal and physical lyricism. Inspired by traditional West African oral culture and dance\, alongside Contemporary and Modern dance styles\, Shayna Jones is a force on stage.Grandmama Speak is a kaleidoscope of Afro-centric folklore and fact\, old wives tales and history. With song\, rhythm and fine movement infused throughout the telling\, Shayna mesmerizes her listeners with tale upon interlocking tale pieced together from the diverse traditions of the African Diaspora. Love and loss\, pride and pain\, hambones and redfish take center stage in a show packed with bold vocal and physical dynamism. Listeners will be left laughing\, sighing\, and lingering over the age-old wisdom of Grandmama Speak. Ages 13 +
