SUMMARY:SMALL TOWN ARTILLERY
DESCRIPTION:Small Town Artillery is a rock and roll band helmed by brothers Tom and Derek van Deursen. Originally from Kaslo\, British Columbia\, Tom and Derek have been playing together for over 20 years\, with Small Town Artillery as their flagship project for the past 10. \nThey are a band that is hard to define\, but aim to accomplish many things. Hard hitting riffs of guitar and brass\, funky grooves\, soaring choruses and melodies\, and poetic lyrics are some of things that they are most known for. \nAfter a rising 6 years in Vancouver\, including headlining festivals\, multiple tours\, signing to JumpAttack! Records and releasing a full length album and 2 EPs\, the band was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Small Town Artillery pivoted\, and by following restriction guidelines\, booked the “Fewer Faces\, Open Spaces” tour\, one of the only live music tours during the summer of 2020 and 2021 in Canada. \nMost recently\, during some time taken off of performing the band lost a core member\, Carson Webber. He had been their dedicated Bass player for almost 10 years and his death sparked a change in how it felt to play music and what it meant to be a band. \nRallying together as a community\, and reaching out to construct a new sound and experience\, Small Town Artillery now feels itself a collective\, with members both new and old forming the current roster. \nThe Band’s successes & growth are due to their high-energy live show\, quality of original music and video\, and strong work ethic to see a childhood dream realized\, 20 years in the making.

SUMMARY:DAYGLO ABORTIONS W/ HELLBENT + MORE
DESCRIPTION:This spring tour for one of Canada’s most iconic punk bands\, Dayglo Abortions\, also marks the return of the Cretin to the line up! \nLegendary punk trio\, Dayglo Abortions\, has been one of Victoria\, BC Canada’s most dangerous music exports since 1979. \nThe band (in one configuration or another) has always offered up no-holds barred punk rock over-the-top album cover artwork and images. Led by Murray Acton “The Cretin” (guitar and vocals)\, they left a mark on the punk underground in the ’80s. \nThey released classics like ‘Out of the Womb’ (1981)\, ‘Feed Us a Fetus’ (1986)\, and ‘Here Today\, Guano Tomorrow’ (1987). \nIn 1988\, criminal charges were brought against their label Fringe and distributor the Record Peddler for the 1986 album’s overall offensiveness. \nThe ’90s releases continued with ‘Two Dogs Fucking – Deux Chiens Fourrent’ (1991)\, ‘Little Man in the Canoe’ (1995)\, ‘Corporate Whores’ (1996)\, ‘Stupid World\, Stupid Songs’ (1998)\, and ‘’Death Race 2000’ (1999). \nAround this time The Cretin was joined by current bassist Willy Jak. 21st century releases include ‘Holy Shiite’ (2004) and ‘Live 2011’ (2011)\, new drummer\, “Blind Marc” (who is legally blind)\, and the latest release ‘Armageddon Survival Guide’ (2016).

SUMMARY:Ora Cogan Live in Nelson with Sarah Orton and Sauly Prior
DESCRIPTION:Friday May 24th 2024\nat the Nelson Squash Club Social Lounge\, upstairs at 330 Baker St\n20$ at the door\, 7PM\nIn support of her acclaimed album Formless and part of her 2024 world tour:\nOra Cogan\nhttps://oracogan.com/\nhttps://open.spotify.com/album/1gGoQORTeRJPQ7fZrqJGMq…\nOver the years\, Cogan has steadily crafted a gothic and cinematic approach to alt country and folk. Her latest string of albums have walked a careful line between shadowed folk intimacy and fractured sonic confessionals\, bringing a hazy psychedelic edge tinged with a myriad of influences. Under The Radar\n“Spent many nights listening to this captivating music.” – Hope Sandoval\, Mazzy Star\n“She and her band entwine the melody with modal guitar curlicues and distant vocals\, yet somehow she sounds more alone than ever.” New York Times\nOra Cogan draws from a wide web of influence\, but – truly – she sounds like no other. – CLASH Magazine\nFormless finds beauty\, absurdity\, humour\, and unlikely joy in the bleakest of times. Cogan’s smoky\, psychedelic approach to gothic country and hazy folk merges with post-punk\, groove\, psych rock\, and traditional balladry. With a singular voice as much sensation as sound\, Ora Cogan seeks out new realities within the smoke-and-mirrors labyrinth of our cruel society.\nwith\nSarah Orton\n-Nelson based Soul-Noir\nwww.sarahortonmusic.com\nhttps://youtu.be/lbIsX0pKfpc?si=XFU5chYJIXPqduyb&t=37\nand\nSauly Prior\n– Dream drone\nhttps://youtu.be/44r4iXN-bhg?si=0vfePaV1b72pqEiI
