SUMMARY:Dirt Relations Screening
DESCRIPTION:When we hear the words ‘truth and reconciliation’\, we don’t automatically think of the mountain biking world. The documentary film Dirt Relations is about to change that. Screening at the Nelson Library\, Dirt Relations is a 30-minute documentary that delves into the connection between mountain biking\, reconciliation and healing intergenerational trauma. Following the screening\, there will be a panel conversation. The event is free and open to the public. \nDirt Relations tells the story of three men: Patrick Lucas\, an 8th generation Canadian from Courtney\, BC\, Thomas Schoen\, a first generation Canadian\, and Tom Eustache\, a Secwepemc man and member of the Simpcw First Nation. Their unlikely friendship led them to create the Indigenous Youth Mountain Bike Program\, and ultimately find themselves recognized as leaders in fostering meaningful reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. \nThe friendship between the three men are an example of how to bring truth and reconciliation to all aspects of life. Schoen says: “Trail building is an amazing tool when it comes to reconciliation. We’re working side by side\, in the dirt\, we’re talking about the past\, we’re talking about the pain\, about the hurt. There’s no way to form a better bond than by working shoulder-to-shoulder to create something for the people.” \nThe Indigenous Youth Mountain Bike Program is a non-profit that assists First Nations in western Canada to develop world class multi-purpose nature trails that promote outdoor recreation and healthy living. Over the past decade the Indigenous Youth Mountain Bike Program has worked with dozens of Nations\, trained hundreds of youth to build trails\, and engage in the sport of mountain biking\, and built more than 100 kilometres of trails.

SUMMARY:DANNY FLOYD COLE
DESCRIPTION:Danny’s career as a recording artist initiated at a young age; his first full-length album was released in 1996 with pop punk trio\, floyd.  In ’98 after graduating from Radio & Television Arts at NAIT\, he began working professionally as an audio engineer/music producer at the award winning studio\, Homestead Recorders\, under the legendary Barry Allen.  A few years later\, Danny fronted the band Coldspot; they released a full-length disc and followed it up with an AFA funded second release\, Like There Was No Tomorrow\, in 2005.  Danny also contributed bass guitar and vocals on two full-length recordings in the band\, Drive the Day.  The project Calan & Cole never officially released any recordings but Jamie and Danny still write and perform together and have plans to make some of their original material available to the world under the band name\, Redemption.

SUMMARY:Son of John: Capitol Homegrown
DESCRIPTION:Son of John doesn’t quite fit the mold – on purpose. As an Alternative Country Americana/Roots duo from the southern interior of British Columbia that has country music running deep in their veins\, their authentic sound can’t really be labeled\, and it depends on who you ask. Comprised of Javan Johnson\, a singer/songwriter in his own right\, but also a 4x BC Country Music Fiddle/Mandolin Player of the Year nominee\, and Johnny P. Johnson\, a seasoned solo artist\, songwriter\, and front man over the past 25 years\, Son of John’s storytelling and rootsy instrumentations – fiddle\, mandolin\, steel\, banjos\, dobros and harps – is a product of a family bond making music together for almost two decades. Officially joining forces in 2017\, with signature harmonies only the same DNA can create\, Son of John is a homage to their shared last name\, and a perfect blend of two generations of country music. \nhttps://www.sonofjohnmusic.com \nThe Capitol Theatre

No laptops. controllers\, etc. DJ’s who arriver on time at 7:50pm will get receive free cover for the evenings event\, whether they play or not.

We begin at the base with a broad idea and work our way to the top\, refining our concept until we reach the peak\, where we have the opportunity to share what we’ve made with the world.\n\nFilmmaker Trixie Pacis shares her journey and recent experiences producing/directing her first three short outdoor documentary films — from developing stories (the base) to distributing them on the mountain festival circuit (the peak).\nThe second half of the workshop will transition into a free-flowing group discussion. Participants will have an opportunity to ask Trixie anything about her experience (particularly with story development\, production\, direction\, or festival distribution). More than just a Q&A\, participants are encouraged to engage in conversation about their own projects by pitching ideas\, asking for input\, and exploring actionable next steps.\n\nStick around after from 1:30-3:30pm for the January 2025 KSBI Meetup and watch Trixie’s short docs Wild Aerial (16m) and Wildflowers (37m)\, followed by a Q+A and networking.\n\nABOUT TRIXIE PACIS:Trixie Pacis is a filmmaker\, photographer\, and writer based in Kimberley\, British Columbia\, focusing on documenting unheard personal and environmental stories. Her documentary films\, Wildflowers and Wild Aerial\, are set to premiere at the 2024 Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival\, while her third film\, Ahon\, will debut at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival in February 2025.\n\nWith over a decade of experience\, Trixie has worked with various media outlets\, including Los Angeles Magazine and Drive Films\, before transitioning to a freelance career. She has collaborated with global clients\, from film producers to travel agencies.\nAs the Director of Acquisitions and Programming for ChimeTV\, America’s first Asian American and Pacific Islander cable channel\, she promotes AAPI culture and representation.
