SUMMARY:February Speaker Series with Bill Hanlon: The Ice Man from British Columbia
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Rossland Museum at 6 pm on Thursday\, February 22nd to hear the story of this discovery of North America’s oldest preserved human remains from Bill Hanlon\, one of the hunters who found them. Entry by donation. \nOne day in August 1999\, three men were hunting sheep in Northern BC when they came across something unexpected: human remains and sundry artifacts – a hat\, a knife\, a bag – emerging from a melting glacier. Archeologists and Indigenous representatives were called in and determined that the remains were of an Indigenous boy in his late teens who had died at least 150 years earlier. Members of the local Champagne and Aishihik First Nations named the unknown man Kwäday Dän Ts’inchi: Long Ago Person Found. \nMore info/RSVP at rosslandmuseum.ca/news/2024/bill-hanlon

SUMMARY:Little Shop of Horrors
DESCRIPTION:at The Bailey Theatre in Trail. BC \nThree shows to choose from! Friday Feb 23rd @ 7:00 pm\, Saturday Feb 24th Matinee @ 2:00 pm & Saturday Feb 24th @ 7:00 pm. \nA deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical\, “Little Shop Of Horrors” has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid\, Beauty And The Beast\, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world. \nThe meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed\, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it\, BLOOD. Over time\, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination! \nBased on the 1960 film by Roger Corman\, this charmingly tongue-in-cheek comedy is one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows. \nThe Rossland Light Opera Players is believed to be the oldest amateur musical theatre group in the Kootenays\, presenting a major musical annually. Still going strong after 60+ years! \n$35 Tickets. Rated PG for mature themes. \nReserved seating. Wheelchair seating is available but can only be purchased through the box office 250-368-9669. Actors deliver their lines directly from the script with minimal direction and movement\, but in character and with gusto. There are no technical elements such as props\, costumes or lighting\, but someone reads the stage directions aloud to give the audience the context for each scene.\n\n\n(from What’s a Play Reading and Why is it Cool? SUMMARY:ANOMALIE
DESCRIPTION:Anomalie is the live electronic project of Nicolas Dupuis\, a classically trained keyboardist and producer based in Montreal\, QC. He’s at once a piano virtuoso\, a keyboard whiz\, and a skilled producer and songwriter that has toured worldwide and performed at the likes of Red Rocks and Electric Forest Festival. Rising to worldwide fame after the release of his two EPs\, Metropole Part I and II\, Anomalie has developed a unique musical identity through an innovative combination of cutting edge electronic production\, jazz and classical harmonies\, and undeniably raw funk groove. His music has attracted fans worldwide\, including modern musical heavyweights such as Charlie Puth\, Chromeo\, Thundercat\, and Snarky Puppy. By the end of 2018\, he sold out his entire North America\, European\, and Asian tours alongside his intricate 4-piece live band and grew his online following in the millions across social media. And he’s achieved all of this as an independent artist. His latest album ‘Galerie’ was released in early 2022.

SUMMARY:Jolene Miner Gallery Show
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of “APPLE SKINS” by Jolene Miner @joleneminerartEnjoy brand new paintings in person\, complimentary snacks\, good company & the Arts Station bar ARTIST STATEMENT:I was a hesitant painter. I wanted so deeply to create something authentic and real that I oftengot in my own way. I wanted it to be raw and true and full of richness\, and those wants kept mestuck in the thinking phase. I needed a way to dissolve my creative barriers\, and I embarked ona journey to find it.I resolved to connect deeply to the intuitive part of myself and create a process that supportedan unselfconscious spontaneity. This meant embracing my vulnerabilities and what I feltcompelled to create without questioning it. I found myself wanting to explore a shape thatpresented as something aware and vaguely human but with all the layers stripped away;something that could express the feeling I wanted to explore but without the distractions of atraditional subject. The simplicity left me free to act without hesitation. Layering and thesubtleties of glazing became key elements as I discovered I was drawn to translucency and anelement of emergence that played against bold lines. I immersed myself in the layering of richareas of color\, thick strokes of white under glazes\, repeating shapes from hand carved stampsand linework created by activating watercolor pencil with medium. As I worked\, I found that astory naturally started to emerge.Apple Skins is me removing my layers\, peeling them away in a long\, bouncy curl andembracing what I find. Candid. Sweet. A little bit weird. It’s the fruits of a spontaneous creativeprocess. By embracing the exploration of my unselfconscious creative impulse\, I use color\,line\, pattern and texture through acrylics\, inks\, wax\, watercolor pencils and mark making tools.I layer and build. I remove and expose. I create a space to be vulnerable\, to feel withoutjudgement and create without barriers.I invite you to see it and feel it for yourself.

SUMMARY:Ballet Jörgen’s Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet® @ THE CAPITOL SEASON
DESCRIPTION:Ballet Jörgen: Anne of Green Gables – CAPITOL SEASON\nAdult $55\n30 and Under $49.50 \nThe creation of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet® is monumental for Canada’s Ballet Jörgen as it is the first time the story has been authorized for creation as a full-length ballet. Making the production even more special\, a company of 16-20 dancers will be joined on stage by local dancers. \nAnne of Green Gables is a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (published as L. M. Montgomery). Although written for all ages\, it is cherished by many children. Anne Shirley\, a young orphan from the fictional community of Bolingbroke\, Nova Scotia (based upon the real community of New London\, Prince Edward Island)\, has spent a childhood living in strangers’ homes and orphanages. Anne is mistakenly sent to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert\, siblings in their fifties and sixties\, who were expecting to adopt a boy to help Matthew run their farm at Green Gables\, in the fictional town of Avonlea. \nAnne is highly imaginative\, eager to please and quite dramatic\, but dislikes her appearance\, despising her red hair and pale\, thin frame. And\, at first\, stern and sharp Marilla wants to return Anne to the orphanage\, but after much consideration\, along with Matthew’s strong liking of Anne\, she decides to let her stay. \nAnne takes much joy in life and adapts quickly\, thriving in the close-knit farming village. With her wild imagination and talkativeness Anne soon brightens up Green Gables. Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet® \nBased on Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™.Original Choreography by Bengt Jörgen\, C.M. Music composed by Norman Campbell.Ballet Score Arranged by Alexander Levkovich. Set & Costume Design by Sue LePage. Original Lighting Design Rebecca Picherack.
