Born and raised in Whitehorse\, Yukon\, they are the author of thirteen books\, the creator of four films\, six stage shows\, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity\, family\, class\, and queer liberation\, but always with a generous heart\, and a quick wit. Ivan’s stories manage to handle both the hilarious and the historical with reverence and compassion\, and remind us all of our own fallible and imperfect humanity\, while at the same time inspiring us to change the world. \nJohn Vaillant’s acclaimed\, award-winning nonfiction books\, The Golden Spruce and The Tiger\, were national bestsellers. This year we are running the first Nelson Pride edition in ‘The Royal Art Throwdown’ format.\nAs a stand alone event and in celebration of Pride week\, we are bringing together a selection of incredible artists from the lgbtq2s+ community for your viewing pleasure.\nArt is such a beautiful voice for culture and expression that we are super excited to see what our artists come up with on the night.\nThe format will be similar to those we have run before with 3-4 artists on stage in two ‘heats’ for one hour\, creating in their chosen format right in front of you.\nAs usual we will be selling raffle tickets to win the art pieces from the night with a portion of proceeds going to the Christopher Moore Community Fund in support of trans and gender diverse community members.\nThere will be no charge at the door but donations will also be graciously accepted. \nDid I mention that I shall also be providing some fun beats for you to vibe on while watching the artists do their thing? \nIn the theme of personal expression I would like to invite everyone to dress up on the night. No theme\, you just do you boo! \nOur fantastic Artists so far are:\nSylvie Le Sylvie\nEllisha Macoretta\nAnna Jauncey\nAmelia Rose aka Art Hermit\nMary Marinangeli aka Night Janitor\nMarcela Calderon Donefer \nI still have a couple of spaces available for lgbtq2s+ artists for the event if you feel like you would want to join in. \nI’m also looking for donations from community businesses or members for prizes for the artists as well as donations for the Christopher Moore fund. \nAs always get in early and get a seat as it will pack out!!! \nBig love to you all!!
