SUMMARY:Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals
DESCRIPTION:Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals Revered Canadian songwriter Stephen Fearing and the award-winning Scandinavian indie-folk band The Sentimentals share a mutual passion for crafting evocative melodies and refined musical interplay that leave audiences cheering. Combining their shared admiration for classic Tin Pan Alley songwriting and storytelling with richly textured soundscapes\, they have forged a singular musical voice that is authentic and refreshingly inventive. Since joining forces in 2018\, Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals have lit up stages across Europe and Canada\, delivering performances defined by an unforgettable blend of masterful songwriting and intricate musicianship. This collaboration is beautifully captured on Fearing’s 2022 album Vejpoesi (road poems)\, where The Sentimentals’ instrumentation deepens the emotional resonance of Fearing’s lyrics and melodies. Recorded in just three days at Maskinhallen\, a theater in Frederikshavn\, Denmark\, these sessions reveal The Sentimentals’ extraordinary ability to reimagine and elevate Fearing’s seasoned material. Together\, Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals have created a rich musical expression focussed on artistic exploration. Their partnership seamlessly weaves traditional roots influences with subtle experimentation\, resulting in performances and recordings that are both emotionally stirring and artistically groundbreaking. \nAdvance Tickets $40\nAt the Door $45

DESCRIPTION:Meet Raul: Architect\, Artist\, and Digital Fabrication Visionary\n\n\n\n“I’m Raul\, an architect and artist of Mexican origin\, now based in Canada since 2022. My lifelong fascination with materials and manufacturing techniques has deeply influenced my approach to design. SUMMARY:KHC presents Lucy MacNeil
DESCRIPTION:Although best known as the lead vocalist (and a multi-instrumentalist) with Canada’s legendary Barra MacNeils\, Lucy MacNeil has a separate musical life from her siblings and is currently touring with her own trio. She’ll be performing a mix of traditional Cape Breton-flavoured Gaelic music and contemporary singer-songwriter material\, including highlights from her brand new solo CD\, Angels Whisper. Lucy grew up in a very musical home and was further blessed with a gorgeous\, crystalline voice. She began performing professionally with three of her older brothers when she was just 10\, nearly 40 years ago. The Barra MacNeils released their first album in 1986 and were winning awards shortly thereafter\, grabbing their first East Coast Music Award in 1991 and their first Juno the year following. These deeply traditional exponents of Cape Breton music and dance have toured regularly across North America and Europe\, true musical ambassadors for Canada. Although it’s fair to say that Lucy is the heart of the Barra MacNeils – aside from her signature vocals in English and Gaelic\, she also dances and plays a lovely fiddle – she has branched out over the years\, performing with such notable artists as the Chieftains and legendary Newfoundland singer-songwriter Ron Hynes. Her CD Angels was a pandemic project\, and the hit single that emerged\, David Mallett’s “Hope for One and All\,” delighted old fans and earned Lucy many new ones. (Roots Music Canada\, after calling her a “vibrant songstress\,” went on to say\, “The alluring Maritime beacon of Lucy MacNeil’s voice puts a simple and sincere glow of certainty on Mallett’s song.”) If you love beautiful vocals entwined with evocative instrumentation\, don’t miss this rare tour!

SUMMARY:Spring Break Photography Camp with Charlotte Truant (Ages 9-13)
DESCRIPTION:Join instructor Charlotte Truant for a week of photography exploration. Participants will be provided with DSLR cameras\, learning to take photos both indoors and outdoors. Each day will begin and end at the VISAC Gallery. Depending on weather\, they may take excursions around Trail to capture photos outdoors\, or in other buildings. Kids will be provided with a scrap book and tools to create and display their beautiful photo creations\, as well as access to a printer to print out their photos. \nWhen: March 17 – 21\, 2025 @ 9:00am-12:00pm \nDuration: 5 days \nAges: 9-13 \nClass Fee: $300 \nAbout Charlotte Truant: Located in the beautiful West Kootenays of British Columbia\, Canada. I actually went to school for dental assisting and I’m a self taught photographer. I had my first little and knew I didn’t want to go back to work. During my maternity leave\, I started a Social media marketing business where I purchased my first camera (Canon Rebel t5i) so that I could take better photos for the businesses that I was running social media for. I ended up loving the photo taking part so much more than the social media part so quickly switched over to only photography. \nIf you have any questions\, reach out to info@visacgallery.com \nRegister here: https://revenue-can.keela.co/youth-photography-workshop

SUMMARY:The Red Thread (And Other Mingled Yarns)
DESCRIPTION:A One Woman Show by Ellie Reynolds \nThis performance is offered to the lovely people of Kaslo on a By Donation basis\, no presales – just show up and donate at the door (suggested donation $20). Here’s a little bit more about the show \nEllie’s third solo show picks up a red thread and unspools it\, while asking the big questions: are the events of our lives somehow inevitable? Are we fated or doomed to love one person\, and what is the Red Thread of Destiny that ties us to one another\, and to our own past?\nThree mysterious yarn-spinning goddesses of Fate aid Ellie through the labyrinthe as she wrestles with her lot in (increasingly middle) life\, reminding us all how telling stories can help us understand how the threads of our lives can stretch\, mingle and twist to form webs of connection across time and space.\nMoving between the worlds of Greek Myth\, to Shakespeare\, to North London and Denver Colorado in the eighties\, through to the present moment in the Kootenays – The Red Thread is an earnest\, yet playful exploration of the role of Fate in our lives and the yarns we spin to try and make sense of it all.

SUMMARY:Debert Bunker: By Invitation Only film screening
DESCRIPTION:Outside a military base in Debert\, Nova Scotia\, on a cold day in February 1984\, a small but mighty group of women harnessed the power of performance art\, protest\, and the media—and captured the attention of the entire country. \nThat same day in February\, 329 people were planning on using the bunker for rehearsal of a nuclear attack—nearly all of them white\, middle-aged men with government or military leadership roles; only 11 women were on the list. \nMonths earlier\, women from all over the Maritimes began planning for a multi-faceted day of action\, dubbed Debunk Debert. The group arranged radio interviews on CBC morning shows\, arranged for men to handle the day’s cooking\, cleaning\, and childcare\, and staged a protest at Camp Debert\, the location of Atlantic Canada’s only cold war bunker. \nThe protesters’ message was clear: while these men continue government from inside the bunker\, what is happening to the women and children you’ve left behind? How do you continue government\, or humanity\, without a second generation? Documentary filmmaker Liz MacDougall explores these questions and covers the protest in her 1985 documentary Debert Bunker: By Invitation Only\, screening Friday\, March 14 in the Cold War Bunker\, presented by the Nelson Museum to celebrate International Women’s Day. \nThe screening of Debert Bunker: By Invitation Only is at 6:30pm on Friday\, March 14\, followed by an open discussion with Anna Purcell and Tressa Ford. Tickets are $10 for museum members and $15 for the general public and includes a reproduction of the ‘Debunk Debert’ buttons created for the original protest. \nTickets can be purchased in person at the Front Desk or online. Space is limited for this one-time only event.

While I’ve always appreciated the artistry and individuality of handmade products\, I’ve also recognized the challenges they face in achieving precision and consistent quality.\n\n\n\nThis curiosity led me to digital fabrication\, where I discovered the power to translate complex designs into reality with precision and control. Through the fusion of technology and craftsmanship\, I am able to create pieces that retain the unique essence of handmade work while elevating their quality and accuracy.”\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: March 10 – 20\, 2025\n\n\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 13 from 4:00pm-5:30pm\n\n\n\nGallery Hours: Monday-Friday\, 12pm-4pm\n\n\nTo learn more\, visit us at: https://visacgallery.com/exhibitions/#unoraulpousfacha
