SUMMARY:NIGHT CITY w/ DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, & JAKOB
DESCRIPTION:Join DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, and JAKOB for NIGHT CITY Saturday April 19th at the Oxygen Art Centre. This dance event takes its name from the neon-soaked urban sprawl featured in William Gibson’s seminal novel Neuromancer. Night City is a chaotic\, hyper-commercialized metropolis where shadowy corporations dominate\, technology permeates every aspect of life\, and the streets pulse with danger and opportunity. This event aims to capture the essence of that world—a fusion of cutting-edge technology\, rebellion\, and underground culture. The soundtrack will feature vintage and contemporary releases from the genres of acid\, darkwave\, ebm\, electro\, industrial\, and techno\, all with a distinctly dark retro futuristic sound.\nNIGHT CITY pays homage to the cultural and social influence of cyberpunk\, a subgenre of science fiction literature. Cyberpunk reflects many of our anxieties about late-stage capitalism\, depicting dystopian worlds where powerful corporations and wealthy elites exploit technology to control society and accumulate profits. However\, it also showcases hope where underground resistance utilizes that same technology to fight back. This duality of technology as both oppressor and liberator is one of cyberpunk’s core messages. Similarly\, electronic music genres like darkwave\, ebm\, industrial\, and techno emerged as forms of cultural resistance. These underground styles reject commercialism\, celebrating non-conformity\, and rebellion. Both cyberpunk and these musical movements create spaces for freedom and liberation in a profit-driven world. \nLocation: Oxygen Art Centre \nAddress: 320 Vernon St Unit-3 (alley entrance)\, Sinixt təmxʷúlaʔx (Nelson\, BC) \nDate: Saturday April 19\, 2025 \nTime: Doors at 9:30pm\, Show at 10pm \nTickets: $20 advance (link in bio)\, $25 door \nDJs: \nDOSE. @dose.productions \nEMERENCZ @emerencz \nJAKOB @jakobsounds \n-No forms of bigotry\, harassment\, or hate will be tolerated\n-Consent is mandatory\n-Celebrate responsibly\n-Please contact us if you have any accessibility requirements\n-Capacity is limited\, secure your spot in advance\n-No one turned away for lack of funds (pwyc) \n#cyberpunk #film #acid #darkwave #ebm #electro #industrial #techno

SUMMARY:KHC Presents Wesli
DESCRIPTION:Delving deeply into Caribbean and African groove-based musical forms such as reggae\, Haitian voodoo\, rara\, Afro beat\, and hip-hop\, Wesli creates music that is highly danceable\, but also has political and cultural insights. \nOne of the most gifted global-roots musicians living in Canada\, Wesley Louissant – stage name Wesli – was born in Haiti but fled the coup that deposed Jean-Bertrand Aristide and found himself at age 11 in a Cuban refugee camp. Musically precocious\, Wesli was still in his teens when he began to establish an international reputation as a performer and arranger. At age 21 he won a scholarship to study music in Montreal\, and that has been his base ever since. After impressive collaborations with celebrated diasporic musicians such as Senaya and Sara Rénélik\, Wesli began recording his own CDs\, with Rapadou Kreyol winning a 2019 Juno for World Music Album of the Year (one of many awards he’s received). Delving ever more deeply into Caribbean and African groove-based musical forms such as reggae\, Haitian voodoo\, rara\, Afro beat\, and hip-hop\, Wesli creates music that is highly danceable\, but also has political and cultural insights embedded in messages of hope\, truth\, and peace. “You want to say something useful to society\, not just entertain people\,” he explains. Latterly\, this gifted vocalist and multi-instrumentalist has taken a deep dive into the Creole culture of Haiti\, resulting in the well-reviewed CD Tradisyon\, which focuses on Haiti’s acoustic and traditional roots music. This charismatic\, effortlessly uplifting performer will be in full flight in Golden as he takes to the stage with his electrifying – and very international – seven-piece group. According to New York-based arts-and-culture daily Nippertown\, “This crackling band had the crowd jumping out of their seats. Complex but never busy\, they came across as an extremely seasoned unit dedicated to escaping gravity and inviting us along for the ride.”

SUMMARY:The Knitting Pilgrim – Stitched Glass
DESCRIPTION:The Trail & District Arts Council presents The Knitting Pilgrim – Stitched Glass\, a unique play about the artistic and spiritual journey of one man through knitting\, on Tuesday\, April 15 at 7:30 pm. Part of the Performing Arts Trail series in The Bailey Theatre. \nA one-man play about the artistic and spiritual journey of actor Kirk Dunn\, who took 15 years to knit a triptych of tapestries. Designed in the style of stained-glass windows\, the knitted artwork explores the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism\, Christianity and Islam. \nA multidisciplinary show that combines personal storytelling\, image projection\, and three huge\, knitted panels that look like stained glass windows. The play explores why people struggle to get along\, the meaning of art\, and the power of love to overcome major obstacles (and minor mishaps) through hand-knitting. \nKirk Dunn is an actor\, writer\, and internationally renowned knitter\, who is fascinated by the many ways in which knitting can bring people together and help them see eye to eye. He uses original\, out-of-the-box knitting and his unique perspective to explore life today and in the past. \n“10 best Toronto stage shows to see in May 2019” – NOW Magazine \n“Top Picks at the 2019 Ottawa Fringe Festival” – Apt613 \n“The Knitting Pilgrim has … empathy\, humour\, intellectual and spiritual reflection. It leaves you with optimism that harmony for oneself (and the world at large) is just around the corner.” – Derek Ritschel\, Artistic Director\, Lighthouse Festival Theatre \nKirk “…has taken an accessible medium like knitting and … used it to communicate ideas that can help repair our social fabric. And then to combine it with a piece of theatre – that is to truly create a unique offering. ”— Nataley Nagy\, Executive Director\, Kelowna Art Gallery \n“In the knitting world where grey and beige plain sweaters seem to rule\, how extraordinary to find this energetic man knitting such detailed and intricate color. I applaud his moxie!”— Kaffe Fassett\, Textile Artist \nWhat Audiences Are Saying: \n“This show was transformative… That’s the mark of really\, really\, really exceptional theatre. When people ask me how this play was\, I say I really cannot describe it to you: it is beyond description. I would give this 6 stars\, if I could\, out of 5.” — CFMU Hamilton Fringe Review \n“A brilliant show that sticks with you\, teaches you how to think\, about faith\, empathy resilience\, and art…This is a brilliant moving piece. ” — Deb K. \n“This is a wonderful\, compelling\, one-of-a-kind show… A “from-the-heart” tale of artistic creativity\, religious tolerance\, and the difficult beauty of finding your path. Went with my teenagers and we haven’t stopped talking about it since! ” — Cynthia S. \n#BYOK – Bring your own knitting. Knitting during the show is encouraged! \n60-minute show\, plus talk back of 30 minutes.

Now retired\, his recent works include landscapes from the West Kootenays\, the Canadian Rockies\, Hawaii\, and Atlantic Canada.

SUMMARY:“Uno” by Raul Pous Facha
DESCRIPTION:Meet Raul: Architect\, Artist\, and Digital Fabrication Visionary\n\n\n\n“I’m Raul\, an architect and artist of Mexican origin\, now based in Canada since 2022. My lifelong fascination with materials and manufacturing techniques has deeply influenced my approach to design. While I’ve always appreciated the artistry and individuality of handmade products\, I’ve also recognized the challenges they face in achieving precision and consistent quality.\n\n\n\nThis curiosity led me to digital fabrication\, where I discovered the power to translate complex designs into reality with precision and control. Through the fusion of technology and craftsmanship\, I am able to create pieces that retain the unique essence of handmade work while elevating their quality and accuracy.”\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: March 10 – 20\, 2025\n\n\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 13 from 4:00pm-5:30pm\n\n\n\nGallery Hours: Monday-Friday\, 12pm-4pm\n\n\nTo learn more\, visit us at: https://visacgallery.com/exhibitions/#unoraulpousfacha
