SUMMARY:Bleeding Tree International *Dark Drama Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Following the critical success of our inaugural Bleeding Tree festival in Cranbrook this past August\, an expanded three-day film screenings and industry networking event will take place May 2-4 at the Tivoli Theatre and Creston Hotel in Creston. Films screened at Bleeding Tree in August have gone on to win top-tier festivals around the world. And the slate of entries for 2025 is even stronger\, underscoring the prime directive of Bleeding Tree: provide for seriously-engaged film going audiences in a seriously rewarding way by screening some of the best short and longer-form dark drama and documentary films in the world. Films submitted by students this year are particularly strong\, underscoring the primary focus of this year’s event on new and emerging filmmakers. Presentations and panels featuring experienced industry players will be held over the three days of the festival\, providing all attendees with important learning and networking opportunities. \n* Niched somewhere between horror and psychological thriller\, dark drama films and documentaries selected for Bleeding Tree are more nuanced works\, often taking some sort of trauma or tragedy in a depicted or documented person’s life and finding connection\, community and resolution therein – including films that find away to find the humour or irony in such darkness – all leaving audiences not just entertained\, but ultimately enriched. A 2024 CBC Radio One interview with festival organizer Mark Wolfe can be heard here: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-110-daybreak-south/clip/16086529-a-kootenay-based-filmmaker-takes-behind-scenes-cranbrook

SUMMARY:THE DEFINITIVE
DESCRIPTION:ROCK N ROLL! \nThe Definitive is an all Canadian rock band formed in Calgary\, Alberta\, in 2023. The group’s unique blend of Evan Burns’ progressive slap bass lines\, Dylan Jones’ classic rock-inspired guitar riffs\, Vaughan Xavier’s in-your-face funky drum grooves and the sweet memorable vocal hooks of Duke Domino\, has garnered them a reputation for exploring uncharted sonic territory – creating a sound the band call Northern Rock. Following the release of their debut album WORLDS AWAY\, they have cemented their reputation as an incredibly energetic and fresh live act\, playing shows and festivals across Western Canada\, and sharing the stage with the likes of Our Lady Peace\, I Mother Earth\, and Headstones.

SUMMARY:MARCUS TRUMMER
DESCRIPTION:Classic Soul\, Blues and Roots! \nA young blood with an old soul\, Marcus Trummer marries modern sensibilities with tradition in his distinctive style that encompasses blues\, soul\, and rock. Dubbed “a precocious guitarist whose vocals possess a wise-beyond-his-years weariness” by the Calgary Herald\, the Calgary-born artist is already earning recognition. In 2022\, Trummer snagged a nomination for “New Artist of the Year” at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto. The following year he traveled to Colorado to perform as a finalist in the 2023 Telluride Blues Challenge\, which he would go on to win. \nMarcus Trummer’s music draws inspiration from the timeless sounds of the 60s and 70s. With his warm and emotive vocals\, Trummer pays respect to classic soul singers like Bill Withers and Al Green. His expressive guitar work channels the impassioned approach of players like B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix. Packed with raw emotion and honesty\, Trummer’s songwriting is not to be…

It’s about celebrating our diversity\, creativity\, and playfulness. Our drums are from all around the world but do not hold any limiting cultural or ceremonial significance. Our instruments are of premium quality and are made from 100% recycled wood fibre. \nFamilies are most welcome. We find that very young children have trouble holding attention for the whole session\, so we kindly ask that children of all ages be responsibly supervised for the enjoyment of all.: ) If you’re interested in a session designed specifically for young people\, we offer programs for schools and youth events of all kinds! \nWe would like to thank For-rest Retreat\, for hosting and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for their support.

SUMMARY:“Uno” by Raul Pous Facha
DESCRIPTION:Meet Raul: Architect\, Artist\, and Digital Fabrication Visionary\n\n\n\n“I’m Raul\, an architect and artist of Mexican origin\, now based in Canada since 2022. My lifelong fascination with materials and manufacturing techniques has deeply influenced my approach to design. While I’ve always appreciated the artistry and individuality of handmade products\, I’ve also recognized the challenges they face in achieving precision and consistent quality.\n\n\n\nThis curiosity led me to digital fabrication\, where I discovered the power to translate complex designs into reality with precision and control. Through the fusion of technology and craftsmanship\, I am able to create pieces that retain the unique essence of handmade work while elevating their quality and accuracy.”\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: March 10 – 20\, 2025\n\n\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 13 from 4:00pm-5:30pm\n\n\n\nGallery Hours: Monday-Friday\, 12pm-4pm\n\n\nTo learn more\, visit us at: https://visacgallery.com/exhibitions/#unoraulpousfacha

SUMMARY:When the Sun Goes Down - A Gallery Show by Shea Caughlin
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s Statement\nWhen the sun dips below the mountains\, the forest becomes a world of wonder and magic. As the light fades\, the air becomes crisp and the sky transforms from golden hues to soft ethereal glows from the moonlight. The creatures of the forest begin to stir; Owls\, with their piercing gazes\, are echoing through the trees. Foxes\, emerge from their dens in search for a snack. Moose and elk\, with their majestic antlers and gentle eyes\, step into the clearing and roam out from the shadows of the forest. \nThe Exhibition will be highlighting the beauty of the Elk Valley area from dusk to dawn inspired by her experiences around Elk Valley\, BC. Her paintings will be highlighting the serene quiet and mystical forests to the wildlife roaming the area such as elk\, moose\, foxes and rams in oils on canvas. \nArtist Bio \nShea Caughlin\, born in 1992\, is a self-taught wildlife artist who draws deeply from her personal experiences in nature. Born in Nova Scotia\, grew up in Ontario and Alberta\, now resides in beautiful British Columbia. \nSince moving to Elk Valley over a year ago\, Shea has been so incredibly inspired by her surroundings that she picked up her paint brush after 15 years and hasn’t put it down since. Working from her home studio\, she draws inspiration by day; walking the trails of ancient forests\, discovering hidden lakes\, and observing wildlife around her home\, to capture every detail by night at her easel. These peaceful surroundings around Elk Valley has helped solidify her love for nature and wildlife and is shaping her future as an artist. Shea’s current medium is oil on canvas. \nInsta: @artistsheacaughlin
