SUMMARY:Alex Zerbe: Professional Zaniac
DESCRIPTION:Make ‘em Laugh \n“Zaniac” Puts Zing! into Family Comedy When was the last time you laughed as hard as your kids?\nWith captivating amounts of energy\, Alex Zerbe moves like a rubber band from one end of the stage to the other. Beatboxing\, juggling\, dancing\, singing\, music and magic are just a few of the things that led Piers Morgan of America’s Got Talent to call Alex\, “The total package.” \nThe “Professional Zaniac\,” whoʼs been cracking jokes onstage for almost 15 years\, zigzags between physical stunts and non-stop comedy. During the show vegetables are sliced in half by flying playing cards\, flaming torches and bowling balls are juggled with ease and every audience volunteer leaves the stage in triumph.\nA self-described “human cartoon\,” his show isnʼt only for the kids in the family. “I try to make my show like the movie Shrek\, super entertaining for the kids but there’s a whole other level of comedy for teens and adults.” says Zerbe.

SUMMARY:An Evening to Celebrate Brent Carver
DESCRIPTION:Walk me to the Corner\, is an evening to discover and celebrate the vast works of Cranbrook’s own legendary Brent Carver. Born and raised in Cranbrook\, Brent got his start in the Mount Baker theatre department under the tutelage of Paul Kershaw. He developed a lifelong passion for the performing arts\, advancing to the world stage and going on to win a Tony award on Broadway\, to become a regular lead performer at the Stratford Festival\, to lead his own TV series on CBC television and to ultimately win Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts: the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards. On October 21\, Key City Theatre’s gallery will be filled with the archives\, memorabilia\, scripts\, photos\, posters\, remembrances and awards that were collected over Brent’s decades long career. The evening will open with a reception where patrons can browse at their leisure\, followed by an onstage presentation led by two of Brent’s contemporaries\, Jim Cameron and Barry Coulter. Jim and Barry will guide us through a presentation rich with archival footage of Brent’s performances\, personal stories from some of his co-stars throughout the years\, and a look at his life here in Cranbrook\, where it all started. This evening promises to be a moving\, personal\, and joyful celebration of a real local artist.

SUMMARY:Amor De Cosmos: A Delusional Musical
DESCRIPTION:Amor De Cosmos: A Delusional Musical revolves around British Columbia’s infamous and astonishing premier\, a man by the name of Amor De Cosmos. The run went well enough for it to be offered a coveted spot in Edmonton’s Fringe festival.\n\nThe Rossland Arts Council is now bringing the show to Rossland for two performances in October! It will be at the Miners’ Hall for October 20 and 21.

SUMMARY:Gardens Will Save Us
DESCRIPTION:Alanda Greene’s book The Impermanence of Broccoli and Other Lessons from the Garden will resonate with anyone who has ever found themselves wondering about the inter-relatedness of life and how that understanding can meet the global crisis. Greene believes that the skills to build a sustainable future can be found in the garden. She will read from her newly published book on Wednesday\, October 18\, 7pm at the Nelson Public Library. \nGreene says that it is in the garden that “we can learn to listen to other life forms\, learn about the healing impact of beauty and presence\, gain confidence in the significance of our actions by remembering that small actions can have large outcomes.” For gardening is where she has learnt about herself: “about the concepts\, attitudes and behaviours that can unconsciously limit my understanding of how I am connected to the other-than-human beings. It is a non-judgmental context that allows change and insight.”
