SUMMARY:Carol Wallace: ‘Give or Take a Few Million Years’
DESCRIPTION:“In retrospect\, I feel like my work as a geologist was\, in fact\, my art education.” Give or Take a Few Million Years reflects Carol Wallace’s experience with the ridgelines and landscapes of her past life through drawings\, paintings\, and textiles that build a dreamlike\, otherworldly exhibition worth delving into. \nGeologic imagery is stitched and inked on layers of silk organza\, magnified minerals of local bedrock are projected onto the gallery wall\, biomorphic shapes are sculpted onto fractured rock\, and ink drawings remind us that a rock is much more than its exterior surface. \nGive or Take a Few Million Years opens Friday\, November 17 with a reception from 7-9 pm at the Nelson Museum. The exhibition runs until Saturday\, February 24.

DESCRIPTION:The Kootenay Gallery’s Christmas at the Gallery Show opens on Friday\, November 17th\, and runs until December 23rd. Visitors will recognize many beloved and familiar vendors amongst the 100 artisans who will have new work to offer for those looking for just that right gift. We will also welcome a number of first-time vendors who will be joining our regular roster. A members-only sneak preview will take place from 10 am – 12 noon on November 17th\, and the show will be open to the general public from 12 noon – 8 pm. This 5-week show will provide lots of opportunity for return visits – we look forward to seeing you!

DESCRIPTION:Surf Hat are an indie-surf rock group from Squamish\, BC. They’ve onlybeen a band a short while\, however their self-titled debut album (releasedJuly 29th\, 2022) has already gathered tens of thousands of plays and a rapidlygrowing fan-base across BC and Canada.\n\n  \n\nCalgary’s Horsebreaker draws influence from spaghetti western themes\, reverb-drenched 60s surf\, cumbia rhythms\, and psychedelia mixed together to create an eclectic & moody experience. Featuring Tyler Allen (guitar)\, Keith Rodger (bass\, baritone\, organ)\, and Matt Dawe (drums)\n\n  \n\nBorn in the remote\, river-laced hills of Northern Alberta\, the Misery Mountain Boys is the black sheep brainchild of frontman Steven Gevenich\, supplanted and enriched by bassist Lindsey Bueckert\, clarinetist/saxophonist Sam Toms\, & drummer Ethan Markwart. Each bring their impressive musicianship to the 8 year musical partnership\, and this is readily apparent in the confidence of the four piece they embody. SUMMARY:As The Crow Flies
DESCRIPTION:As The Crow Flies (ATCF) is music that reaches deep into the heart of small-town living. Based around the vocals of Shawna Plant and Anie Hepher\, the duo formed in 1992 performing in small venues in the East Kootenays. They were joined by bass\, guitar\, and mandolin members and the full band started in earnest in 1999 with regular performances in the region. The band became known for their original songs\, unmistakable blend of harmonies and humorous stage banter. Their songs speak to the genuine joy of living in each moment\, performed with both upbeat bluegrass rhythms\, soaring vocals\, and honest songwriting poetry. In the fall of 2003\, ACTF released their first full length CD Miles to go to an enthusiastic and melody-loving audience at the Key City Theatre. Tours and festivals led them to the release of their second album One Small Acre (2005). As their families expanded\, band members moved and life flowed on\, and after over 21 years of making music together\, ATCF eventually went their separate musical ways.On November 10\, 2023 the Key City Theatre is delighted to present original band members: Shawna Plant\, Anie Hepher\, Steve Jones and Michael Hepher\, joined by Clayton Parsons for an unforgettable 20 year reunion of music:Kootenay created\, curated and performed for anyone whose heart belongs in a mountain town.
