SUMMARY:Nelson Community Drum Circle
DESCRIPTION:Set free your inner rhythm\, connect with your community\, and let the beat move you! \nWelcome to the Nelson Community Drum Circle as part of Rhythm by Nature’s Community Drumming Tour! \nSupported by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm by Nature brings you a fully interactive and immersive drumming experience for one night only at the North Shore Hall\, Nelson. \nNo drumming experience is needed and all the instruments are provided. \nProfessionally facilitated\, participants will learn about and experiment with different drums and drumming techniques from all around the world. You’ll experience a fun and inclusive drumming workshop\, but that’s only the beginning! \nHere are a number of reasons why this event is for you: \n\nGroup drumming releases stress and negative emotions\nYou’re pulled into the present moment\nIt induces deep relaxation\nIt provides a sense of empowerment\nIt can reduce chronic pain & boost the immune system\nYour body and mind align with the natural world\nYou’re offered a non-verbal communicative tool\nIt allows for personal transformation\nOh\, and it’s a whole lot of fun!\n\n\nDiscounts are offered when you buy three or more tickets!\nInstruments are provided but feel free to bring your own.\n\n  \nA little about Rhythm By Nature and your facilitator\, Patrick Carrick: \nPatrick is a certified ‘Circles of Rhythm’ master facilitator\, professional percussionist\, and music educator. Patrick has a passion for bringing people together through the power of rhythm and has worked within a wide variety of musical genres and ensembles. \nPatrick founded Rhythm by Nature in 2016 and it has since become a popular mainstay in BC’s Columbia Valley region\, offering a variety of programs and events that promote community connection\, wellness\, social development\, and creativity. \nPatrick’s affection for music and drumming has taken him all around the world\, finally growing roots in the Kootenays. After completing three levels of facilitation training with the nationally acclaimed ‘Circles Of Rhythm’ & internationally recognized Rhythm2Recovery\, Patrick has been hosting community drumming events in the communities of Invermere\, Radium Hot Springs\, Panorama Mountain Resort\, Fairmont Hot Springs\, Edgewater\, Canal Flats\, Kimberley\, Golden and beyond. Rhythm by Nature has earned a reputation for its positive community impact and inclusive approach to group drumming. \nThanks to the support of the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm By Nature is touring the entire Columbia Basin throughout the Fall with the intention of demonstrating the many benefits that come from the Integrative Community Drum Circle. \nAn Important Distinction: \nRhythm By Nature follows the ‘Integrative Community Drum Circle (ICDC)’ methodology. This means that our drumming is not based on any ethnospecific traditions\, cultures\, or rhythms. The ICDC employs a multicultural approach so that the experience is accessible to everyone. It’s about celebrating our diversity\, creativity\, and playfulness. Our drums are from all around the world but do not hold any limiting cultural or ceremonial significance. Our instruments are of premium quality and are made from 100% recycled wood fiber. \nFamilies are most welcome. We find that very young children have trouble holding attention for the whole session and we kindly ask that children of all ages are responsibly supervised\, for the enjoyment of all : ) \nWe would like to thank the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for supporting this event.

SUMMARY:Chuck Copenace: Oshki Manitou
DESCRIPTION:Chuck Copenace: Oshki Manitou – Capitol Season\nAdult $35\n30 and Under $31.50 \nFor Chuck Copenace\, Oshki Manitou is a decidedly personal musical expression\, a gift to his family and community\, and a means of sharing how ceremonial melodies have changed his musical outlook and united his creativity and spirituality. \nOshki Manitou finds the Winnipeg-based\, Ojibway musician expanding dramatically on his previous work as a trumpet player\, arranger\, and composer\, fusing contemporary interpretations of sweat-lodge melodies with jazz and elements of dance and electronica. \nThe result is a collection of eminently groovy\, haunting\, and ethereal songs that display Chuck Copenace’s signature voice and substantial skills as an interpreter\, composer\, and performer as never before. But there’s a larger purpose behind his efforts\, for which Oshki Manitou is just a starting point. “I’m committed to sharing my story and I want to introduce young people to jazz\, but I also want to bring indigenous musicians together. And I think my music can be a platform to further that mission.”

Actors deliver their lines directly from the script with minimal direction and movement\, but in character and with gusto. There are no technical elements such as props\, costumes or lighting\, but someone reads the stage directions aloud to give the audience the context for each scene.\n\n\n(from What’s a Play Reading and Why is it Cool? SUMMARY:Carol Wallace: ‘Give or Take a Few Million Years’
DESCRIPTION:“In retrospect\, I feel like my work as a geologist was\, in fact\, my art education.” Give or Take a Few Million Years reflects Carol Wallace’s experience with the ridgelines and landscapes of her past life through drawings\, paintings\, and textiles that build a dreamlike\, otherworldly exhibition worth delving into. \nGeologic imagery is stitched and inked on layers of silk organza\, magnified minerals of local bedrock are projected onto the gallery wall\, biomorphic shapes are sculpted onto fractured rock\, and ink drawings remind us that a rock is much more than its exterior surface. \nGive or Take a Few Million Years opens Friday\, November 17 with a reception from 7-9 pm at the Nelson Museum. The exhibition runs until Saturday\, February 24.
