SUMMARY:Laila Biali Trio
DESCRIPTION:Laila Biali’s live show is eclectic and energetic\, a true representation of her on and off stage. Melodies take thrilling left turns and pre-choruses give way to instrumental interludes. One minute Biali is soaring over a bluesy storm of handclaps and hard-charging keyboard riffs\, the next she is pouring out her soul on an impassioned ballad. It’s jazz\, it’s pop\, it can’t be put into a box but it’s beautiful. \nOctober 22nd\, 7:30 at the Capitol Theatre \nAdult: $35; Senior: $31.50; Under 30: $10 \n

SUMMARY:Basin Food Summit (6th annual)
DESCRIPTION:The Basin Food Summit and Expo have been held in the Columbia Basin since 2018 at a new location each year. The event is designed to celebrate\, connect and grow the region’s food industry and all the community members that play a roll in it. You can learn about past events here and get a feel for what happens over the 3 days of the region’s only annual food summit. \n  \nThis year we will host two days of Industry related programming\, followed by a public day (Saturday Oct 26) which will include: a large marketplace for basin food vendors and this year we will add (for the first time ever) an artisan marketplace for those who created products inspired by or using mushrooms. Connecting the mycelial network is the theme of this year’s event and as the space available at the Nakusp arena allows\, we will expand our marketplace to truly celebrate the fungi! \nAmid all this\, there will be plenty of time to reconnect with your Basin food friends\, soak in the mineral-rich hot springs\, tour local farms\, vineyards\, and orchards\, and enjoy a unique mushroom musical performance and an exceptional farm-to-table dining experience featuring Chef Tyler Leeson of Bella Soriah and Chanterelle. \nVisit basinfood.ca to review the agenda\, speakers\, and get tickets. The first 150 attendees get a free hot spring soak!

SUMMARY:‘ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ‘ਚ ਤਰੇੜ | sheeshe ‘ch tharer | a crack in the mirror’ exhibition opening
DESCRIPTION:It is easy to get swept up in the beauty of the brightly coloured\, intricately patterned fabrics that create ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ‘ਚ ਤਰੇੜ | sheeshe ‘ch tharer | a crack in the mirror\, a visually satiating exhibition by Surrey artist Simranpreet Anand and Conner Singh VanderBeek\, which is touring to the Nelson Museum\, Archives & Gallery from October 26\, 2024 to February 15\, 2025\, from the Reach Gallery in Abbotsford. Upon closer inspection\, the viewer can see the hardened\, curling  edges of the fabric panels\, proof of the melted plastics contained within. \nAnand’s work explores the Sikh and Punjab diaspora\, often through textiles\, language\, and photographs. It examines the traditional role of women in Indian culture and offers a new perspective on the rigid confines of worship. \nThe exhibition opens on Friday\, October 25 from 7-9pm. This event is FREE and open to the public.
