SUMMARY:Rhythm By Natures - Community Drumming Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/rhythmbynature \nSet free your inner rhythm\, connect with your community\, and let the beat move you! \nWelcome to Rhythm by Nature’s Community Drumming Tour! \nSupported by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm by Nature brings you a fully interactive and immersive drumming event\, for the whole community\, at many communities ithroughout the Columbia Basin! \nNo drumming experience is needed and all the instruments are provided. \nProfessionally facilitated\, participants will learn about and experiment with different drums and drumming techniques from all around the world. You’ll experience a fun and inclusive drumming workshop\, but that’s only the beginning! \nHere are a number of reasons why this event is for you: \nGroup drumming is an effective way to reduce stress and negative emotions\nYou’re pulled into the present moment which induces deep relaxation\nIt provides a sense of empowerment and self-confidence\nIt is a powerful and positive way to connect with your local community\nIt can reduce chronic pain & boost the immune system\nYour body and mind align with the natural world and your inner nature\nYou’re offered a non-verbal communicative tool to express and connect\nIt provides a foundation for personal transformation and growth\nOh\, and it’s a whole lot of fun!\nDiscounts are offered when you buy three or more tickets!\nInstruments are provided but feel free to bring your own.\nA little about Rhythm By Nature and your facilitator\, Patrick Carrick: \nPatrick is a certified ‘Circles of Rhythm’ master facilitator\, endorsed REMO Rhythm Wellness & You provider\, professional percussionist\, and music educator. Patrick has a passion for bringing people together through the power of rhythm and has worked within a wide variety of musical genres and ensembles. \nPatrick founded Rhythm by Nature in 2016 and it has since become a popular mainstay in BC’s Kootenay region\, offering a variety of programs and events that promote community connection\, wellness\, social development\, and creativity. \nPatrick’s affection for music and drumming has taken him all around the world\, finally growing roots in the Columbia Valley. After completing three levels of facilitation training with the nationally acclaimed ‘Circles Of Rhythm’ & internationally recognized Rhythm2Recovery\, Patrick has been hosting community drumming events throughout the Columbia Basin. Rhythm by Nature has earned a reputation for its positive community impact and inclusive approach to group drumming. \nThanks to the support of the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm By Nature is touring the entire Columbia Basin during the spring of 2025 with the intention of demonstrating the many benefits that come from the Integrative Community Drum Circle. \nAn Important Distinction: \nRhythm By Nature follows the ‘Integrative Community Drum Circle (ICDC)’ methodology. This means that our drumming is not based on any ethnospecific traditions\, cultures\, or rhythms. The ICDC employs a multicultural approach so that the experience is accessible to everyone. It’s about celebrating our diversity\, creativity\, and playfulness. Our drums are from all around the world but do not hold any limiting cultural or ceremonial significance. Our instruments are of premium quality and are made from 100% recycled wood fibre. \nFamilies are most welcome. We find that very young children have trouble holding attention for the whole session\, so we kindly ask that children of all ages be responsibly supervised for the enjoyment of all.: ) If you’re interested in a session designed specifically for young people\, we offer programs for schools and youth events of all kinds! \nWe would like to thank the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance and many other Columbia Basin Arts Councils for their support. \nTickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/rhythmbynature

SUMMARY:NIGHT CITY w/ DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, & JAKOB
DESCRIPTION:Join DOSE.\, EMERENCZ\, and JAKOB for NIGHT CITY Saturday April 19th at the Oxygen Art Centre. This dance event takes its name from the neon-soaked urban sprawl featured in William Gibson’s seminal novel Neuromancer. Night City is a chaotic\, hyper-commercialized metropolis where shadowy corporations dominate\, technology permeates every aspect of life\, and the streets pulse with danger and opportunity. This event aims to capture the essence of that world—a fusion of cutting-edge technology\, rebellion\, and underground culture. The soundtrack will feature vintage and contemporary releases from the genres of acid\, darkwave\, ebm\, electro\, industrial\, and techno\, all with a distinctly dark retro futuristic sound.\nNIGHT CITY pays homage to the cultural and social influence of cyberpunk\, a subgenre of science fiction literature. Cyberpunk reflects many of our anxieties about late-stage capitalism\, depicting dystopian worlds where powerful corporations and wealthy elites exploit technology to control society and accumulate profits. However\, it also showcases hope where underground resistance utilizes that same technology to fight back. This duality of technology as both oppressor and liberator is one of cyberpunk’s core messages. Similarly\, electronic music genres like darkwave\, ebm\, industrial\, and techno emerged as forms of cultural resistance. These underground styles reject commercialism\, celebrating non-conformity\, and rebellion. Both cyberpunk and these musical movements create spaces for freedom and liberation in a profit-driven world. \nLocation: Oxygen Art Centre \nAddress: 320 Vernon St Unit-3 (alley entrance)\, Sinixt təmxʷúlaʔx (Nelson\, BC) \nDate: Saturday April 19\, 2025 \nTime: Doors at 9:30pm\, Show at 10pm \nTickets: $20 advance (link in bio)\, $25 door \nDJs: \nDOSE. @dose.productions \nEMERENCZ @emerencz \nJAKOB @jakobsounds \n-No forms of bigotry\, harassment\, or hate will be tolerated\n-Consent is mandatory\n-Celebrate responsibly\n-Please contact us if you have any accessibility requirements\n-Capacity is limited\, secure your spot in advance\n-No one turned away for lack of funds (pwyc) \n#cyberpunk #film #acid #darkwave #ebm #electro #industrial #techno

SUMMARY:Local Trail\, Distant Shores: Water Colour Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:A series of watercolour paintings by Dan Ashman. The exhibition takes inspiration from the scenery of the West Kootenays. \nExhibition Dates:\nMarch 27 – April 24\, 2025 \nOpening Event:\nMarch 27\, 2025 \nEvening Hours:\nApril 15\, 2025 \nGallery Hours:\nTuesday-Thursday\n12pm-4pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Statement:\nIf I am asked how long it took to paint a picture\, I would reply\, “Thirty-five years to learn how\, and a few hours to put paint on paper”. It is a long process to master the media of watercolour and even after all this time\, something can still go wrong. I’m still learning and developing my style. \nAbout Dan Ashman:\nDan Ashman was born in British Columbia in 1956 and started his foray into art in High School by painting in oils. He moved to Trail to work as a Metallurgical Engineer at Teck and took up watercolours in 1987 during a night school course led by fellow engineer and local watercolour artist\, Brian O’Hara. Subsequently\, he attended workshops with Les Weisbrich\, a watercolour artist from the Slocan valley\, and Kiff Holland\, a watercolour artist from the lower mainland. Otherwise\, he is self taught. \nDan joined the Trail Art Club in 1988 and helped to establish the VISAC gallery. He was a member of the “Thursday Night Painters” when it was led by Bob Ross. His work has been shown in Art Club exhibitions\, the VISAC invitational show\, showings of the Thursday Night Painters both in Trail and Spokane as well as juried art shows. He has sold a number of paintings including one to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. \nAs an avid outdoorsman\, Dan was inspired by the captivating scenery of the West Kootenays and began to capture local scenes in watercolour either painting “en plein air” or in his studio. He is also an amateur photographer and uses photos from his travels as subject matter. Now retired\, his recent works include landscapes from the West Kootenays\, the Canadian Rockies\, Hawaii\, and Atlantic Canada.

SUMMARY:When the Sun Goes Down - A Gallery Show by Shea Caughlin
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s Statement\nWhen the sun dips below the mountains\, the forest becomes a world of wonder and magic. As the light fades\, the air becomes crisp and the sky transforms from golden hues to soft ethereal glows from the moonlight. The creatures of the forest begin to stir; Owls\, with their piercing gazes\, are echoing through the trees. Foxes\, emerge from their dens in search for a snack. Moose and elk\, with their majestic antlers and gentle eyes\, step into the clearing and roam out from the shadows of the forest. \nThe Exhibition will be highlighting the beauty of the Elk Valley area from dusk to dawn inspired by her experiences around Elk Valley\, BC. Her paintings will be highlighting the serene quiet and mystical forests to the wildlife roaming the area such as elk\, moose\, foxes and rams in oils on canvas. \nArtist Bio \nShea Caughlin\, born in 1992\, is a self-taught wildlife artist who draws deeply from her personal experiences in nature. Born in Nova Scotia\, grew up in Ontario and Alberta\, now resides in beautiful British Columbia. \nSince moving to Elk Valley over a year ago\, Shea has been so incredibly inspired by her surroundings that she picked up her paint brush after 15 years and hasn’t put it down since. Working from her home studio\, she draws inspiration by day; walking the trails of ancient forests\, discovering hidden lakes\, and observing wildlife around her home\, to capture every detail by night at her easel. These peaceful surroundings around Elk Valley has helped solidify her love for nature and wildlife and is shaping her future as an artist. Shea’s current medium is oil on canvas. \nInsta: @artistsheacaughlin

You’ll experience a fun and inclusive drumming workshop\, but that’s only the beginning! \nHere are a number of reasons why this event is for you: \n\nGroup drumming is an effective way to reduce stress and negative emotions\nYou’re pulled into the present moment which induces deep relaxation\nIt provides a sense of empowerment and self-confidence\nIt is a powerful and positive way to connect with your local community\nIt can reduce chronic pain & boost the immune system\nYour body and mind align with the natural world and your inner nature\nYou’re offered a non-verbal communicative tool to express and connect\nIt provides a foundation for personal transformation and growth\nOh\, and it’s a whole lot of fun!\n\n\nDiscounts are offered when you buy three or more tickets!\nInstruments are provided but feel free to bring your own.\n\n  \nA little about Rhythm By Nature and your facilitator\, Patrick Carrick: \nPatrick is a certified ‘Circles of Rhythm’ master facilitator\, endorsed REMO Rhythm Wellness & You provider\, professional percussionist\, and music educator. \nWe would like to thank For-rest Retreat\, for hosting and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for their support.

SUMMARY:MARCUS TRUMMER
DESCRIPTION:Classic Soul\, Blues and Roots! \nA young blood with an old soul\, Marcus Trummer marries modern sensibilities with tradition in his distinctive style that encompasses blues\, soul\, and rock. Dubbed “a precocious guitarist whose vocals possess a wise-beyond-his-years weariness” by the Calgary Herald\, the Calgary-born artist is already earning recognition. In 2022\, Trummer snagged a nomination for “New Artist of the Year” at the Maple Blues Awards in Toronto. The following year he traveled to Colorado to perform as a finalist in the 2023 Telluride Blues Challenge\, which he would go on to win. \nMarcus Trummer’s music draws inspiration from the timeless sounds of the 60s and 70s. With his warm and emotive vocals\, Trummer pays respect to classic soul singers like Bill Withers and Al Green. His expressive guitar work channels the impassioned approach of players like B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix. Packed with raw emotion and honesty\, Trummer’s songwriting is not to be…
