SUMMARY:Local Trail\, Distant Shores: Water Colour Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:A series of watercolour paintings by Dan Ashman. The exhibition takes inspiration from the scenery of the West Kootenays. \nExhibition Dates:\nMarch 27 – April 24\, 2025 \nOpening Event:\nMarch 27\, 2025 \nEvening Hours:\nApril 15\, 2025 \nGallery Hours:\nTuesday-Thursday\n12pm-4pm \nArtist Statement:\nIf I am asked how long it took to paint a picture\, I would reply\, “Thirty-five years to learn how\, and a few hours to put paint on paper”. It is a long process to master the media of watercolour and even after all this time\, something can still go wrong. I’m still learning and developing my style. \nAbout Dan Ashman:\nDan Ashman was born in British Columbia in 1956 and started his foray into art in High School by painting in oils. He moved to Trail to work as a Metallurgical Engineer at Teck and took up watercolours in 1987 during a night school course led by fellow engineer and local watercolour artist\, Brian O’Hara. Subsequently\, he attended workshops with Les Weisbrich\, a watercolour artist from the Slocan valley\, and Kiff Holland\, a watercolour artist from the lower mainland. Otherwise\, he is self taught. \nDan joined the Trail Art Club in 1988 and helped to establish the VISAC gallery. He was a member of the “Thursday Night Painters” when it was led by Bob Ross. His work has been shown in Art Club exhibitions\, the VISAC invitational show\, showings of the Thursday Night Painters both in Trail and Spokane as well as juried art shows. He has sold a number of paintings including one to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. \nAs an avid outdoorsman\, Dan was inspired by the captivating scenery of the West Kootenays and began to capture local scenes in watercolour either painting “en plein air” or in his studio. He is also an amateur photographer and uses photos from his travels as subject matter. Now retired\, his recent works include landscapes from the West Kootenays\, the Canadian Rockies\, Hawaii\, and Atlantic Canada.

SUMMARY:Rhythm By Natures - Community Drumming Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/rhythmbynature \nSet free your inner rhythm\, connect with your community\, and let the beat move you! \nWelcome to Rhythm by Nature’s Community Drumming Tour! \nSupported by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm by Nature brings you a fully interactive and immersive drumming event\, for the whole community\, at many communities ithroughout the Columbia Basin! \nNo drumming experience is needed and all the instruments are provided. \nProfessionally facilitated\, participants will learn about and experiment with different drums and drumming techniques from all around the world. You’ll experience a fun and inclusive drumming workshop\, but that’s only the beginning! \nHere are a number of reasons why this event is for you: \nGroup drumming is an effective way to reduce stress and negative emotions\nYou’re pulled into the present moment which induces deep relaxation\nIt provides a sense of empowerment and self-confidence\nIt is a powerful and positive way to connect with your local community\nIt can reduce chronic pain & boost the immune system\nYour body and mind align with the natural world and your inner nature\nYou’re offered a non-verbal communicative tool to express and connect\nIt provides a foundation for personal transformation and growth\nOh\, and it’s a whole lot of fun!\nDiscounts are offered when you buy three or more tickets!\nInstruments are provided but feel free to bring your own.\nA little about Rhythm By Nature and your facilitator\, Patrick Carrick: \nPatrick is a certified ‘Circles of Rhythm’ master facilitator\, endorsed REMO Rhythm Wellness & You provider\, professional percussionist\, and music educator. Patrick has a passion for bringing people together through the power of rhythm and has worked within a wide variety of musical genres and ensembles. \nPatrick founded Rhythm by Nature in 2016 and it has since become a popular mainstay in BC’s Kootenay region\, offering a variety of programs and events that promote community connection\, wellness\, social development\, and creativity. \nPatrick’s affection for music and drumming has taken him all around the world\, finally growing roots in the Columbia Valley. After completing three levels of facilitation training with the nationally acclaimed ‘Circles Of Rhythm’ & internationally recognized Rhythm2Recovery\, Patrick has been hosting community drumming events throughout the Columbia Basin. Rhythm by Nature has earned a reputation for its positive community impact and inclusive approach to group drumming. \nThanks to the support of the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, Rhythm By Nature is touring the entire Columbia Basin during the spring of 2025 with the intention of demonstrating the many benefits that come from the Integrative Community Drum Circle. \nAn Important Distinction: \nRhythm By Nature follows the ‘Integrative Community Drum Circle (ICDC)’ methodology. This means that our drumming is not based on any ethnospecific traditions\, cultures\, or rhythms. The ICDC employs a multicultural approach so that the experience is accessible to everyone. It’s about celebrating our diversity\, creativity\, and playfulness. Our drums are from all around the world but do not hold any limiting cultural or ceremonial significance. Our instruments are of premium quality and are made from 100% recycled wood fibre. \nFamilies are most welcome. We find that very young children have trouble holding attention for the whole session\, so we kindly ask that children of all ages be responsibly supervised for the enjoyment of all.: ) If you’re interested in a session designed specifically for young people\, we offer programs for schools and youth events of all kinds! \nWe would like to thank the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance and many other Columbia Basin Arts Councils for their support. \nTickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/rhythmbynature

SUMMARY:“Uno” by Raul Pous Facha
DESCRIPTION:Meet Raul: Architect\, Artist\, and Digital Fabrication Visionary\n\n\n\n“I’m Raul\, an architect and artist of Mexican origin\, now based in Canada since 2022. My lifelong fascination with materials and manufacturing techniques has deeply influenced my approach to design. While I’ve always appreciated the artistry and individuality of handmade products\, I’ve also recognized the challenges they face in achieving precision and consistent quality.\n\n\n\nThis curiosity led me to digital fabrication\, where I discovered the power to translate complex designs into reality with precision and control. Through the fusion of technology and craftsmanship\, I am able to create pieces that retain the unique essence of handmade work while elevating their quality and accuracy.”\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: March 10 – 20\, 2025\n\n\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 13 from 4:00pm-5:30pm\n\n\n\nGallery Hours: Monday-Friday\, 12pm-4pm\n\n\nTo learn more\, visit us at: https://visacgallery.com/exhibitions/#unoraulpousfacha

SUMMARY:Local Trail\, Distant Shores: Water Colour Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:A series of watercolour paintings by Dan Ashman. The exhibition takes inspiration from the scenery of the West Kootenays. \nExhibition Dates:\nMarch 27 – April 24\, 2025 \nOpening Event:\nMarch 27\, 2025 \nEvening Hours:\nApril 15\, 2025 \nGallery Hours:\nTuesday-Thursday\n12pm-4pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Statement:\nIf I am asked how long it took to paint a picture\, I would reply\, “Thirty-five years to learn how\, and a few hours to put paint on paper”.

SUMMARY:Rossland Recollections: “The Olaus Story” with Roly Worsfold
DESCRIPTION:Late November 1894\, a Norwegian man arrived in Rossland. His arrival wasn’t remarkable – miners were pouring into town in the thousands to seek their fortune in the gold mines of Red Mountain. But this man would go on to have a bigger impact on our town than perhaps any other. His name was Olaus Jeldness\, and this particular miner came with skis. \nMore than a hundred years later\, Rosslander Roly Worsfold had an idea. “I wouldn’t be living and skiing in Rossland today if it weren’t for Olaus\,” he told his buddies\, “And a lot of other people wouldn’t be either.” Roly went on to lead the Spirit of Red Society\, the group that raised funds to install the now-iconic statue of Olaus at the corner of Washington and Columbia. \nJoin us at the Museum at 6 pm on Thursday\, April 10th\, as Roly shares the full story – from Olaus’ life and legacy to the journey of installing the statue\, and even the connections he made in Norway along the way.\nRSVP for this Speaker Series event at https://square.link/u/sCp2EjPT – we’ll be celebrating Olaus and the Spirit of Red with a tea party (featuring actual tea and coffee\, of course!). \nMore info: rosslandmuseum.ca/news/2025/april-recollections
