SUMMARY:Learn to Sharpen Your Carving Knives
DESCRIPTION:In this 3 hour workshop we will cover how to sharpen both a traditional Scandinavian grind carving knife and also curved hook knives. You will provided with your own simple sand paper based sharpening kit and strop to take home with you. I can provide knives for you to practice on\, or if you have your own tools please feel free to bring them along with you to sharpen. \nSharping tools is an essential and often overlooked skill that is important to your enjoyment of the craft\, your tool lifespan and also your own safety. Believe it or not\, sharp tools are safe tools! It is super common to feel nervous about sharpening especially as a beginner. I’m here to assist with that!

SUMMARY:Weekend Carving Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a weekend of carving by the wood stove. This two day package includes both the Cooking Spoon class and the Eating Spoon Class back to back at a discounted rate and on the same weekend. \nIn the 4 hour Saturday class you will begin by learning the basics of wood identification and tool handling along with some basic carving techniques. In the 6 hour Sunday class we will get stuck into some more technical work exploring more organic forms and ergonomics\, as well as different decoration and finishing options.

Forget about perfection and polished masterpieces; these half-day classes are all about the experience of making art! This class is perfect for those who feel unsure of what to make\, those that struggle with perfection\, and those who just want to have fun. \nThese classes take an unconventional approach to creativity\, championing exploration and curiosity. You’ll explore strange\, messy\, and playful activities that go beyond just paint and composition. From experimental techniques to playful destruction\, this is your chance to embrace the chaos and make some bad art. DESCRIPTION:In this 3 hour workshop I will teach you to make your own axe block that is the perfect working height for you. The axe block is the mini work bench of the carving world. A simple but very functional piece of portable equipment that is necessary for an enjoyable carving experience. A properly sized axe block can make the difference between a sore body at the end of a session or not. We will cover mostly axe and saw work in this class. \nThis course is perfect for everyone\, especially those that are total beginners and have perhaps never used an axe or knife to carve before. You will learn the confidence to handle sharp tools safely and by the end will be ready to do with your own home carving station.

DESCRIPTION:In this 6 hour workshop\, we will take a deep dive into the world of green wood spoon carving. We’ll cover all the skills you’ll need to go out into the woods identify\, cut\, cleave\, axe\, carve\, and finish a beautiful and ergonomic piece of functional wooden ware. \nBoth the most basic of daily utilitarian objects and a surprisingly complex piece of design involving compound curves\, intersecting wood grain directions\, slight proportional nuances and very sharp tools. There is a lot that can be learned from a humble wooden spoon!
