SUMMARY:LIVE ELECTRONIC MUSIC SHOWCASE
DESCRIPTION:A Family Friendly Afternoon Concert + Dance Party \nYou might be asking… what is “Live Electronic Music”? Well\, simply put\, it is electronic music that is performed live. In other words\, the performers are not DJing; rather\, they utilize a variety of electronic instruments (e.g. synthesizers\, sequencers\, computers\, electronic violins\, vocal processors\, theremins\, loopers\, etc.) and weave sonic-worlds in real-time\, one layer at a time. \nThis showcase will take you on an epic journey into the world of live electronic music. It’ll start right at 3:20pm with a 10 minute talk giving an overview of live electronic music. Following this\, each of the 4 acts (who produce music in completely different genres of music) will do two things. They will: 1) give a 10 minute talk discussing their creative and technical processes\, so that attendees have a much deeper insight into how they think about\, feel into\, and perform their music\, and 2) follow that talk with a 40 minute performance. \nThe artists are: \ntpwtr (glitchy lo-fi funk)\nthisissami (improvised beats & freestyle rap)\nNella Banner (ethereal downtempo & ambient)\nJaq Taforo + Aurelien Sudan (improvised electronic-jazz fusion) \nFood will be available courtesy of Nelson-based Mexican chef Erika Cuevas. She will be serving burritos and soup\, with vegetarian and gluten free options available. \nSound will be provided by Live Harmonics from the Slocan Valley\, who will be setting up a PK sound system. \nDoors open at 3:00pm. Show starts at 3:20pm.

DESCRIPTION:Thu\, Mar 28 at The Royal in Nelson\n7:30 p.m. PST \nRaised in the mountains of BC\, Lila Gray calls Vancouver home. Through her heartfelt lyrics and skillful songwriting\, Lila plumbs the depths of her young adulthood and explores the trials and tribulations of queer womanhood in the 21st century. This young artist found her passion\, and eternal love for music at the tender age of five\, when she started her classical training through cello. Since then\, Lila has picked up singing\, songwriting\, and guitar to establish her presence as a musician. Shortly after placing in the Top 100 of the 2021 CBC Searchlight Competition\, Lila took off to Montreal to pursue a formal education in audio engineering and sound production. Lila’s unique production and intricate lyricism are masterfully executed in her sophomore album Wild Tension\, which garnered a collective 10\,000 streams on Spotify and a well attended coast to coast Canadian tour this past fall. \n  \nGrowing up listening to influential classics such as The Beatles\, James Brown\, Queen\, and The Kinks\, while constantly finding new artists from whom to draw inspiration (Arlo Parks\, Lorde\, Billie Eilish\, Bleachers\, and Feist)\, Lila has managed to find her unique indie pop sound. Lila Gray collaborates regularly with other musicians (Jill Barber\, Aza Nabuko\, and Aysia Jordan among them) and is currently establishing herself as a music producer/audio engineer for other up and coming artists.

SUMMARY:SHADOWPLAY: A Night of Dark Music on Wax
DESCRIPTION:SHADOWPLAY \n\nJoin duo CLOAK & DAGGER and their comrade JAKOB on Saturday March 23rd in the basement of Kootenay Coop Radio for a night of dark music on wax. The event takes its name from the iconic track off of Joy Division’s debut album Unknown Pleasures. The band’s intervention in 1979 was a game changer that inspired many genres of unique musical exploration\, such as darkwave\, EBM\, industrial\, new wave\, post-punk\, and gothic rock. The show features many of her collage pieces that have been held in private collections for  years and not accessible to the public\, as well as samples of art cards that Judy has traded around the globe throughout her storied career. \nJudy’s daughter\, actor and musician Bessie Wapp\, has developed a special performance for the opening reception on Friday\, March 22 @ 7pm. DESCRIPTION:The taqəš and Other Works program features a stunning lineup of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s contemporary ballet repertoire. With Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s powerful and compelling taqəš[tawKESH]\, Guillaume Côté’s mesmerizing Bolero\, and Fraser-Monroe’s satirical The Cowboy Act Suite\, this high-energy program promises to please a wide range of spectators. \nCameron Fraser-Monroe brings his classical ballet training\, knowledge of traditional Coast Salish\, Grass\, and Hoop Dance\, and experience as a contemporary dancer to taqəš [tawKESH]\, which means “to return something” in Ayajuthem\, the language belonging to the Homalco\, Klahoose\, K’omoks and Tla’amin Nations. Set to several songs by Polaris Prize-winning composer and singer Jeremy Dutcher\, taqəš follows the traditional story “Raven Returns the Water\,” centred around ῤoho (raven) and walθ (frog). \nNext\, National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of the beloved Boléro by Maurice Ravel\, one of music’s most famous and identifiable melodies. A “riveting tour de force” (Dance Magazine)\, Bolero (2012) features breathtaking lifts and virtuosic choreography. \nRounding out the program\, audiences will be transported to the Wild West in Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s The Cowboy Act Suite\, a work that explores the dichotomy between “Cowboys and Indians” set to music by Mohawk singer/songwriter Tom Wilson.
