So he’s added a second concert on April 9 at 7:30pm. Beloved in his home country\, he is no stranger to Canada: “The word Prodigy seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills he coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws\,” wrote the Calgary Herald. In other words\, the performers are not DJing; rather\, they utilize a variety of electronic instruments (e.g. synthesizers\, sequencers\, computers\, electronic violins\, vocal processors\, theremins\, loopers\, etc.) and weave sonic-worlds in real-time\, one layer at a time. \nThis showcase will take you on an epic journey into the world of live electronic music. It’ll start right at 3:20pm with a 10 minute talk giving an overview of live electronic music. Following this\, each of the 4 acts (who produce music in completely different genres of music) will do two things. They will: 1) give a 10 minute talk discussing their creative and technical processes\, so that attendees have a much deeper insight into how they think about\, feel into\, and perform their music\, and 2) follow that talk with a 40 minute performance. \nThe artists are: \ntpwtr (glitchy lo-fi funk)\nthisissami (improvised beats & freestyle rap)\nNella Banner (ethereal downtempo & ambient)\nJaq Taforo + Aurelien Sudan (improvised electronic-jazz fusion) \nFood will be available courtesy of Nelson-based Mexican chef Erika Cuevas. Through her heartfelt lyrics and skillful songwriting\, Lila plumbs the depths of her young adulthood and explores the trials and tribulations of queer womanhood in the 21st century. This young artist found her passion\, and eternal love for music at the tender age of five\, when she started her classical training through cello. Since then\, Lila has picked up singing\, songwriting\, and guitar to establish her presence as a musician. Shortly after placing in the Top 100 of the 2021 CBC Searchlight Competition\, Lila took off to Montreal to pursue a formal education in audio engineering and sound production. Lila’s unique production and intricate lyricism are masterfully executed in her sophomore album Wild Tension\, which garnered a collective 10\,000 streams on Spotify and a well attended coast to coast Canadian tour this past fall. \n  \nGrowing up listening to influential classics such as The Beatles\, James Brown\, Queen\, and The Kinks\, while constantly finding new artists from whom to draw inspiration (Arlo Parks\, Lorde\, Billie Eilish\, Bleachers\, and Feist)\, Lila has managed to find her unique indie pop sound. Lila Gray collaborates regularly with other musicians (Jill Barber\, Aza Nabuko\, and Aysia Jordan among them) and is currently establishing herself as a music producer/audio engineer for other up and coming artists.

SUMMARY:Judy Wapp: ‘VisuAlchemy’ exhibition opening
DESCRIPTION:As an activist\, visual artist\, and radio personality for nearly 75 years\, Judy Wapp has lived an incredible life\, laying the groundwork for her intense interest in communication via mass media – the subject of her collage work for nearly 33 years. \nA thoughtful look at Judy’s art career spanning six decades\, VisuAlchemy is a never-before exhibited retrospective showing at the Nelson Museum\, Archives & Gallery from March 23 to June 22\, 2024. The show features many of her collage pieces that have been held in private collections for  years and not accessible to the public\, as well as samples of art cards that Judy has traded around the globe throughout her storied career. \nJudy’s daughter\, actor and musician Bessie Wapp\, has developed a special performance for the opening reception on Friday\, March 22 @ 7pm. Guests are strongly encouraged to wear neckties!
