Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door\, and audience members can look forward to an evening of thoughtful\, humorous\, and uplifting lyrics swirled gently into an acoustic mix of all original folk sounds and sibling vocal harmonies. \n“Several of us grew up in the Valley and cut our teeth as buskers on Baker Street” said Francis\, songwriter who plays fiddle and cello with the Awakeneers “It’s been twelve years since our last concert at Nelson United\, during that time the music has taken us across two continents and three albums — so it’s pretty swell to be coming back to the Kootenays with the band!” \nThe Awakeneers will also perform at the SIFCo Resiliency Centre in Winlaw on July 20th at 5:30 pm. \nCurrently based on Cortes Island\, the Awakeneers are a nomadic tribe of multi-instrumentalist songwriters (most of whom are siblings) who offer a genre-bending blend of acoustic positivity that orbits elliptically around the idea of folk music. \n\n\nThe band was formed in 2020\, but all members of the Awakeneers have played together for more than a decade. DESCRIPTION:Kicking Horse Culture is proud to present the Summer Kicks 2025 season. \nEvery summer\, people from all over gather in Golden to enjoy free Wednesday evening Summer Kicks concerts . The lineup includes both touring bands and local talent\, providing a lively atmosphere with great music. The concerts take place at Keith King Park from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Attendees are advised to bring a chair or blanket as seating is limited but fun is guaranteed! \nAbout The Event\nHaving already sung and collaborated with Stevie Wonder\, DJ Champion and Garou under the artist name Marie-Christine Depestre\, she now appears in a new light\, more authentic and full of life than ever. In reference to the nickname given to her by her family and in homage to her maternal grandmother\, this choice of a new stage name is a way for her to fully express her personality\, to assert her art and thus to find a form of balance. \nThe concept for EP’s Push and Pull is partially inspired by what she describes as her “duality”— off the stage she is more shy and introspective\, but when she performs she is able to let loose her “inner beast.” When reflecting on this new work’s intent\, she says\, “It takes some time to figure out what you want and don’t want. There comes a time when you ask yourself certain hard questions and you decide to take action towards what you truly want for your future. That is when you begin to bloom into who you want to be.” \nTina Leon uses her music to reconcile between the fluctuating nature of seemingly conflicting emotions\, desires\, likes and dislikes. Her work confronts the difficult questions we might ask ourselves: “Where am I in my life?”/“What do I want?”/“Who is the person I have become?”
