SUMMARY:Starbelly Jam Presents: L’Omelette & Honeydripper Live at Gray Creek Hall
DESCRIPTION:Starbelly Jam Music Festival presents Calgary’s favourite art rockers\, L’Omelette\, alongside resident beat man and deep house connoisseur\, Honeydripper\, for an epic night of dancing and mini Starbelly magic.\n\nL’omelette weaves soul\, jazz and punk into colourful\, honest\, genre-fluid tapestries. The Calgary art-rockers dart between prog and new-wave rock rhythms and synth-led dance pop\, tethered by commanding melodies and current concepts\nMeg Benedict’s vocal\, sax and synth stylings are underpinned by guitarist Alex Klipper’s thoughtful and driving riffs; Matthew Lowe’s infectiously melodic bass lines; and Peter Cormier’s diamond-cut drumming and backup vocals. With them\, there’s always something vivacious\, heady\, danceable and thought-provoking to chew on.\n\nSteven Gevenich\, better known as Honeydripper\, is an old hand at new tricks. As a music producer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and DJ\, he has been blazing the frontier of Canada’s burgeoning deep house scene. Profoundly influenced by Chicago house music\, Honeydripper draws elements of jazz\, funk\, and soul into a mature catalogue\, that focuses more on subtly and feeling than reaction.

SUMMARY:DJ Civillian [Vancouver] – Live in Nelson
DESCRIPTION:Civillian [Vancouver] \n– Shambhala / Bass Coast / Wicked Woods – \nEclectic is an understatement when trying to describe the sound of Civillian. While always staying true to his roots in Hip Hop\, his taste and collection have expanded exponentially to allow him to become a party-rocking chameleon – no situation outside of his scope. Beside his proven taste and wide range in selection\, his ability to integrate elements of Turntablism into a dance-floor friendly set is what separates him from other DJ’s. Whether it’s the main stage\, an impromptu sunrise set\, house party or underground rave\, Civillian is always prepared. \nVenue: Finley’s Bar & Grill \nPK Sound by Live Harmonics \nSupporting Acts: \nFluxo & Dubconscious \nLuminesce \nWax Headroom \nDoors 10pm \nFirst tickets $10

SUMMARY:L’OMELETTE with HONEYDRIPPER
DESCRIPTION:L’omelette weaves soul\, jazz and punk into colourful\, honest\, genre-fluid tapestries. The Calgary art-rockers dart between prog and new-wave rock rhythms and synth-led dance pop\, tethered by commanding melodies and current concepts. Meg Benedict’s vocal\, sax and synth stylings are underpinned by guitarist Alex Klipper’s thoughtful and driving riffs; Matthew Lowe’s infectiously melodic bass lines; and Peter Cormier’s diamond-cut drumming and backup vocals. With them\, there’s always something vivacious\, heady\, danceable and thought-provoking to chew on. \nHoneydripper (aka Steven Gevenich) is an Edmonton based producer\, musician\, and DJ. A guitarist by trade\, he has spent well over a decade heavily involved in live music\, taking inspiration and experience from a diverse background in jazz\, funk\, and roots music. However a love for dance music and underground culture sparked the way to a solo house music project in the spring of 2017. Honeydripper’s productions are a medley of lush chords\, dusty drum samples\, sultry vocal hooks\, deep bass lines\, and worldly percussion\, all carefully detailed with a signature emotion and subtlety. Add a touch of lo-fi and you get warm and cozy house beats designed for long summer nights and early morning dance floors.

SUMMARY:Ali Hassan: Does This Taste Funny?
DESCRIPTION:Ali Hassan’s career plans started off as simply as anyone’s: become a chef\, get a food show on television\, get a second food show on television\, be the face of the network and have oven mitts with his face on them. But sometimes things get in the way of your dreams: like your parents’ disappointment\, your family of four children and your successful comedy career. \nThis show is a hilarious exposition of Ali’s journey in and out of the culinary world in which he spent 12 years. Think Eat\, Pray\, Love….minus the Prayer. \nAdult: $30; Senior: $27; Under 30: $15 \nThe Capitol Theatre

SUMMARY:Sechile Sedare – Leela Gilday and Jay Gilday perform together
DESCRIPTION:The Trail & District Arts Council presents contemporary roots duo Sechile Sedare\, a perfect pairing of JUNO award-winning Leela Gilday and Jay Gilday\, on Tuesday\, January 28 at 7:30 pm. Part of the Performing Arts Trail series in The Bailey Theatre. \nSechile Sedare (seh-chee-leh’ ‘seh-dahr-eh’) means ‘my younger brother\, my older sister’ in the Dene language. And these sibling songwriters hit notes of nostalgia\, hope\, and humour in songs about their family history\, connection to the land and water\, and the twists and turns of fate. \nThis musical collaboration sees Jay and Leela co-write and co-create new repertoire together\, harnessing their talents as deeply insightful and genuine storytellers. Their voices blend in perfect harmony\, in songs created during lockdown in 2021 and during a residency at the Banff Centre.\nJay Gilday is a vagabond turned mailman\, who has searched for himself in the depths of Folk\, blues\, traditional\, rock and most recently soul music. As a half Dene\, half Canadian-Irish man who travelled the roads of Canada in his youth\, he weaves work\, family\, and performance into song. Jay performs with a powerful voice and heavy hitting guitar\, finger-style or flat-picked\, your choice! \nLeela Gilday was born and raised in the Northwest Territories\, and she writes about the people and the land that created her. The power in her voice conveys the depth of her feelings of love and life in a rugged environment and vibrant culture\, as if it comes straight from that earth. Leela’s family is from Délįne on the shore of Great Bear Lake and her rich vocals dance across the rhythmic beats of traditional Dene drumming and bass line. \nLeela Gilday – Awards & Accolades\n2021 JUNO Award ** Indigenous Artist of the Year\n2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award ** Social Voice\n2021 Canadian Folk Music Award Winner ** Indigenous Songwriter of the Year (North Star Calling) \n2 x 45 minute sets \nPhotos by Olya Shendrik. \nSingle tickets are $30.
