DESCRIPTION:Based in the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada\, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks draw inspiration from the ongoing cycles of the natural world. Both volatile and constant—like nature’s best offerings—the band finds solace and beauty in the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. There’s a kind of technicolor campfire quality to their uniquely hybrid sound: Each track is steeped in tradition and polished with a futuristic sheen\, mixing organic folk\, roots rock\, and old-time blues with modern electronic production. Since its initial release\, the band’s breakout hit “Home” has reached over 5 million streaming plays\, and their original tracks have been licensed for a wide range of television networks\, including Netflix and Fox Sports. With the release of their debut full-length album Currents\, the duo reveals an ever-evolving\, cohesive blend of introspective writing\, soulful\, gritty blues\, boot-stomping basslines\, and intricate electronic arrangements.

DESCRIPTION:Together Nelson Ending Poverty project presents a fundraising concert with Juno-award winning singer-songwriter Stephen Fearing\, Saturday December 16\, 7:30pm at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson. \nStephen’s music is a mesmerizing blend of roots\, folk\, and pop. Co-founder of Canadian roots-rock group Blackie and The Rodeo Kings\, he is a beguiling teller of tales\, and his masterful guitar work and engaging performance style combine to present an intimate and moving experience.\nThrough a life of many relocations and countless months on the road performing\, Fearing has become a gifted storyteller and true musical nomad with the ability to enthrall audiences of all sizes and attitudes. “Getting on stage is the fun part\, especially when the adrenaline kicks in\,” he says\, with a broad smile. “People want to escape and be taken on a journey. I build my shows so they do just that.” \nStephen is committed to using his music to support community-building projects like\nTogether Nelson\, a community-based initiative launched by Nelson at its Best in the fall of 2020.\nIts work is to better understand local poverty in order to create a four-year Community Action Strategy to reduce poverty in Nelson and Area.
