DESCRIPTION:Join us on the Rossland Museum lawn for live music and fun for the whole family at our annual Arts & Culture Festival\, September 14th and 15th from 12 to 4 pm all weekend. In partnership with the Rossland IncrEdible Market\, we’ll be featuring Kootenay artisans\, vendors\, and food trucks! Not to mention: art workshops\, a bouncy castle\, lawn games\, scavenger hunt\, and crafts to make this the perfect event to enjoy on a September afternoon. \nSign up for a ceramics workshop with Lana Jamieson at 1pm on Saturday – we’ll be making porcelain ghost-shaped candle holders! At 1pm Sunday\, Erin Shuttleworth of VISAC Gallery will be offering a styrofoam plate printing workshop! These workshops are free\, but space is limited\, so please register in advance! Make this your weekend’s main event\, or stop by to enjoy our food\, music\, and artisans before an exciting evening at Between the Peaks music festival. \nThis Festival is an opportunity for our region’s local visual and performing artists to showcase their talents to the public as we celebrate the spectacular culture in our area with live music\, artist demos\, artisan booths\, and more. Entry is free\, but donations are always appreciated! \nThis event is supported in part by Tourism Rossland\, Columbia Power\, the Columbia Basin Trust\, the Nelson & District Credit Union\, Teck Trail Operations\, the Province of BC\, and the Government of Canada.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, September 30\, Canada—and Taghum Hall—observes Truth and Reconciliation day. At 10am kids 7 – 12 are invited to join multi-talented artist and musician Lance Ledger for Indigenous-led activities. Fun\, creative play is a great way for kids to embrace new understanding and lead the way for our next generation. As part of the activities\, kids will participate in the re-installation and re-dedication of beautiful pathway stones created by Nlaka’pamux artist Kaida McCauley in honour of residential school survivors and those who never made it home. This event is free of charge.

DESCRIPTION:You’ll never hear ‘Don’t touch!’ and ‘Shhh!’ at Museum Mash! People of all ages are invited to explore the museum in new ways – fostering creativity\, making memories\, and building a lifelong love for museums and galleries. Sing! Dance! Colour on the walls! Is that a giant cardboard fort? YES! \nOn Sunday\, October 6 at 10 am the doors at the Nelson Museum are flung open and free activities are offered throughout the day\, until 3 pm. Drumming\, cardboard forts\, and giant Jenga will entertain younger children while older artists get creative with printmaking and papercrafts. Designed with kids in mind\, Museum Mash! is a beloved semi-annual event that encourages families to explore the museum in unique ways.

SUMMARY:Visual Exploration Club (Ages 5-8)
DESCRIPTION:About Visual Exploration Club (VEC):\nStudents can expect to learn about other artists\, experiment with various materials\, and make mistakes. Each participant receives a sketchbook to track their skill development in a wide range of materials such as drawing\, painting\, printmaking and 3-dimensional art.\n\nThis session is for ages 5-8\, or primary students in grades K-3.\n\nAbout the instructor:\nErin has a BFA in Studio Arts from UVic and a Masters of Illustration from Falmouth University. DESCRIPTION:During the height of the Cold War\, in the 1950s and 1960s\, nearly 50 bunkers were constructed across Canada. In 2017\, the Nelson Museum began work on restoring the space and opening it to the public. You can join a tour of one of the Museumʼs best-loved spaces! \nFrom iodine pills and Geiger counters to board games and ashtrays\, visitors get a glimpse of the vast measures taken to create normalcy in an extraordinary time. \nEmail info@nelsonmuseum.ca to register. SUMMARY:Itty Bitty Art Time (Preschool Art Classes)
DESCRIPTION:Participants can expect to make artwork in a wide range of materials that encourage experimentation and motor skill development. Previous projects include yarn bowls\, glitter dioramas and marker pull art.\n\nThese classes get MESSY\, be sure to dress your child (and yourself!) in play clothes.
