SUMMARY:Discovering the Intimate Details in Nature
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever paused to observe the intricate details in nature? Art Gallery Kimberley is proud to present Intimate Details in Nature\, a compelling photography exhibit by photographer Tracey Halladay\, in the gallery from September 9 through 29\, 2024. \nTracey Halladay invites viewers to step into a world often overlooked\, where the beauty of the Southeast Rockies is revealed in its most subtle forms. Through her lens\, Tracey captures the delicate patterns on leaves\, the soft textures of fur and feathers\, and the remarkable complexity of insect wings. Each photograph in this collection tells a story of mindfulness\, encouraging viewers to slow down and truly see the world around them. \n“I take the time to slow down and appreciate the little things around me. I clear my mind and become fully aware of my surroundings\,” says Tracey. “By looking at the big scene and gradually discerning the finer details\, I capture the essence and subtle beauty of the world.”\nWhile creating this body of work\, Tracey has noticed an increased awareness of her senses and the ability to see the elements in a smaller scene. This has also allowed her to use this technique in other areas of her photography. \nIntimate Details in Nature is more than a photography exhibit; it is an invitation to reconnect with the natural world. Tracey’s work reminds us of the treasures hidden in plain sight and the peace that comes from immersing ourselves in the natural environment. Tracey explains\, “By sharing the natural beauty and mystery of the wild places and faces surrounding me\, I encourage people to be mindful\, curious\, and compassionate towards themselves\, others\, this Earth\, and its creatures.” \nTracey\, a photographer based in the Southeast Rockies of British Columbia\, has long been inspired by the wild places and faces that surround her. Her photography is a conduit for emotion\, connection\, and passion—an expression of her belief that life is a gift to be cherished. \nJoin us at Art Gallery Kimberley for the “Intimate Details in Nature” from September 9 through 29\, and experience the beauty that lies in the small\, often unnoticed details of the world around us. SUMMARY:STOODIS Indigenous Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, the STOODIS Indigenous Film Festival debuted\, exploring the film industry’s “Colonial Gaze” and immersing audiences in authentic Indigenous narratives. Thomas King’s words\, “The truth about stories\, is that’s all we are\,” underscored the festival’s emphasis on the profound impact of storytelling\, particularly on youth. \nThe festival’s design draws inspiration from the Medicine Wheel\, a symbol of cultural significance\, representing life’s various facets for Indigenous communities. STOODIS aims to promote the normalization and celebration of Indigenous presence and perspectives. In the predominantly rural\, settler community in which we live\, the festival seeks to cultivate knowledge\, support\, and humanization of Indigenous people\, fostering a shared understanding of past\, present\, and future. \nIn  2024\, STOODIS will offer a celebration of diverse and compelling storytelling through film\, live performances\, and community engagement and conversations. The festival aims to showcase the work of emerging and established Indigenous artists while fostering a sense of community and cultural exchange. This year\, STOODIS will spotlight global Indigenous resistance\, excellence\, and resurgence.
