DESCRIPTION:“Zaynab opens her heart and soul to you\,” observed Meg Stewart\, who was in the audience for the first performance of Zaynab Mohammed’s one-woman show Are You Listening? in the Cold War Bunker. “Her vulnerability allows you to reach into your own.”  \nThe Nelson Museum\, Archives & Gallery and the Nelson & District Arts Council are presenting two additional performances of Are You Listening?\, on November 2 at 7 pm and November 3 at 4 pm. \nAre You Listening? is the story of a woman reflecting on what she has learned by leaning on the art of listening to herself\, to others\, and to the earth. It is the story of a young woman who loses her innocence at a young age due to cultural inequity\, and how she finds freedom from centuries of colonization and displacement\,

SUMMARY:Carol Wallace: ‘Give or Take a Few Million Years’
DESCRIPTION:“In retrospect\, I feel like my work as a geologist was\, in fact\, my art education.” Give or Take a Few Million Years reflects Carol Wallace’s experience with the ridgelines and landscapes of her past life through drawings\, paintings\, and textiles that build a dreamlike\, otherworldly exhibition worth delving into. \nGeologic imagery is stitched and inked on layers of silk organza\, magnified minerals of local bedrock are projected onto the gallery wall\, biomorphic shapes are sculpted onto fractured rock\, and ink drawings remind us that a rock is much more than its exterior surface. \nGive or Take a Few Million Years opens Friday\, November 17 with a reception from 7-9 pm at the Nelson Museum. The exhibition runs until Saturday\, February 24.

SUMMARY:The Importance of Being Earnest – Freezing Point Play Reading Series
DESCRIPTION:Black Productions Presents Freezing Point: A Play Reading Series\n\nThe Importance of Being Earnest\nBy Oscar Wilde\nDirected by Robyn Lamb\n\nFeaturing:\nScott Thorp\nQuinn Barron\nGreg Marrast\nLev Sonego\nLindsay Clague\nJaimie MacGibbon\nGillian Wiley\nSydney Black\nNelson United Church\n\nFriday\, November 17\, 7:30pm\n10$ donation at the door\n\n\n\nWhat exactly is a play reading?\n\n\n\nA play reading is the most basic version of a play. Actors deliver their lines directly from the script with minimal direction and movement\, but in character and with gusto. There are no technical elements such as props\, costumes or lighting\, but someone reads the stage directions aloud to give the audience the context for each scene.\n\n\n(from What’s a Play Reading and Why is it Cool? We find that very young children have trouble holding attention for the whole session and we kindly ask that children of all ages are responsibly supervised\, for the enjoyment of all : )
