DESCRIPTION:Want to learn and practice dancing Argentine Tango?\n\n\nWe host a weekly mini-lesson and practica at Christie Lee’s Hall in Fairview.\n\n\nThe guided portion from 7:30-8:15 has a different host and topic each week (check our Facebook page for host and topic announcements). We have an open practice after the lesson until 9:30pm.\n\n\n\nDancers of all levels are welcome! Material is beginner-friendly.\n\n\nTango is an improvised partner dance originating in Argentina and Uruguay; you don’t need a partner to attend tango practices or events and it can be danced by anyone and everyone.\n\n\n\n\nPlease bring your dancing shoes and a water bottle.\n\n\n5$ donation\n\n\n\nWhere to find us: Christies Lees Hall is on Radio Ave.\, in lower Fairview. DESCRIPTION:Lou Corrado grew up in Rossland in the later years of the Great Depression and Kim Deane following the Second World War. Having lived here for so long and through such extraordinary times\, both have seen the city change and evolve to an extraordinary degree. These two long-time Rosslanders will take us on a fascinating and nostalgic journey through Rossland’s history\, touching on the post-war period\, the evolution of Cominco\, the expansion of the skiing industry\, evolving subcultures\, and more! If you’re interested in Rossland’s history or you’re another long-time local looking to indulge in a little nostalgia (and maybe learn something new about your backyard!) then this is the event for you. \nOur March Speaker Series event is 6 pm Thursday\, March 28th at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre. Entry is by donation and treats/refreshments will be provided. Through her heartfelt lyrics and skillful songwriting\, Lila plumbs the depths of her young adulthood and explores the trials and tribulations of queer womanhood in the 21st century. This young artist found her passion\, and eternal love for music at the tender age of five\, when she started her classical training through cello. Since then\, Lila has picked up singing\, songwriting\, and guitar to establish her presence as a musician. Shortly after placing in the Top 100 of the 2021 CBC Searchlight Competition\, Lila took off to Montreal to pursue a formal education in audio engineering and sound production. Lila’s unique production and intricate lyricism are masterfully executed in her sophomore album Wild Tension\, which garnered a collective 10\,000 streams on Spotify and a well attended coast to coast Canadian tour this past fall. \n  \nGrowing up listening to influential classics such as The Beatles\, James Brown\, Queen\, and The Kinks\, while constantly finding new artists from whom to draw inspiration (Arlo Parks\, Lorde\, Billie Eilish\, Bleachers\, and Feist)\, Lila has managed to find her unique indie pop sound. Lila Gray collaborates regularly with other musicians (Jill Barber\, Aza Nabuko\, and Aysia Jordan among them) and is currently establishing herself as a music producer/audio engineer for other up and coming artists.

DESCRIPTION:A Family Friendly Afternoon Concert + Dance Party \nYou might be asking… what is “Live Electronic Music”? Well\, simply put\, it is electronic music that is performed live. In other words\, the performers are not DJing; rather\, they utilize a variety of electronic instruments (e.g. synthesizers\, sequencers\, computers\, electronic violins\, vocal processors\, theremins\, loopers\, etc.) and weave sonic-worlds in real-time\, one layer at a time. \nThis showcase will take you on an epic journey into the world of live electronic music. It’ll start right at 3:20pm with a 10 minute talk giving an overview of live electronic music. Following this\, each of the 4 acts (who produce music in completely different genres of music) will do two things. They will: 1) give a 10 minute talk discussing their creative and technical processes\, so that attendees have a much deeper insight into how they think about\, feel into\, and perform their music\, and 2) follow that talk with a 40 minute performance. \nThe artists are: \ntpwtr (glitchy lo-fi funk)\nthisissami (improvised beats & freestyle rap)\nNella Banner (ethereal downtempo & ambient)\nJaq Taforo + Aurelien Sudan (improvised electronic-jazz fusion) \nFood will be available courtesy of Nelson-based Mexican chef Erika Cuevas. She will be serving burritos and soup\, with vegetarian and gluten free options available. \nSound will be provided by Live Harmonics from the Slocan Valley\, who will be setting up a PK sound system. \nDoors open at 3:00pm. This is Volume 2 of a series of monthly jams\, each featuring a unique collaboration “game” or “style”.\n\n***This month’s theme: SESSION MUSICIANS***\n\nHere’s how it works:\n\nProducers are each granted time with one of the participating “session musicians” to record original accompaniment to the music YOU create during the jam.\n\nProducers choose when they’d like to use their recording time. SUMMARY:Creative Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop with Maya FowlerImmerse yourself in a supportive\, uplifting\, and enjoyable course delving into the fundamentals of creative writing. Covering elements like style\, characterization\, plot\, genre\, dialogue\, narrative arc\, and tension\, the sessions are designed to be both informative and hands-on. Explore various genres\, from literary and suspense to romance and horror\, and discover your preferred arena.Throughout the four sessions\, you’ll progressively create an outline and character maps for a short story of up to 2\,000 words. This can be tailored for adults or children. Following Session 3\, you’ll write the full draft of your story\, sharing it with the class for constructive reviews in Session 4. The class will engage in providing feedback\, drawing on the knowledge gained in the course.– Wednesday evenings\, 6:30pm – 9:30pm– April 3\, 10\, 17 & 24– $140 for all four classes– Participants are required to bring their own notebook and pens (laptops are optional)While the teacher won’t have the capacity to review or edit work outside of class\, she’ll be readily available for questions during sessions and offer guidance during practical exercises. DESCRIPTION:Want to learn and practice dancing Argentine Tango?\n\n\nWe host a weekly mini-lesson and practica at Christie Lee’s Hall in Fairview.\n\n\nThe guided portion from 7:30-8:15 has a different host and topic each week (check our Facebook page for host and topic announcements). We have an open practice after the lesson until 9:30pm.\n\n\n\nDancers of all levels are welcome! Material is beginner-friendly.\n\n\nTango is an improvised partner dance originating in Argentina and Uruguay; you don’t need a partner to attend tango practices or events and it can be danced by anyone and everyone.\n\n\n\n\nPlease bring your dancing shoes and a water bottle.\n\n\n5$ donation\n\n\n\nWhere to find us: Christies Lees Hall is on Radio Ave.\, in lower Fairview. SUMMARY:"Vessels for Spheres" by Rob Toller
DESCRIPTION:THE ART OF HONOURING THE BEAUTY OF NATURE\n“Vessels for Spheres” \nUsing found objects\, mostly natural forms discovered during his wanderings\, Kimberley-based sculptor extraordinaire Rob Toller has created a collection of small sculptures that honour the exquisite beauty of nature. Rob is excited to announce his upcoming solo art exhibit “Vessels for Spheres”\, open to inspire visitors at Art Gallery Kimberley in BC’s Best Small Town from April 4-14\, 2014. \nThrough his intentional wanderings in the natural world\, Rob draws inspiration from the fascinating surfaces and lines provided by nature. His approach to working with found objects is focused on honouring and highlighting their intrinsic beauty\, with little alteration or imposition. Rob explains\, “I’m drawn to raw\, organic textures and surfaces\, and I’m a big fan of rust. I often incorporate natural elements like wood and stone into my metal sculptures. The balance and rhythm of natural forms guide my art\, allowing the materials to speak for themselves.“ Ultimately\, Rob’s artworks serve as a showcase of the beauty of the natural world as its own sculpture gallery\, filled with endless inspiration. \nRob’s creative journey began in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies where\, according to Rob\, “Regular explorations of the front ranges in all seasons led to the discovery of spectacular root structures\, weathered by years in the elements – chinook winds\, fire and weather extremes.” Recognising the necessity to elevate these natural sculptures with complementary bases so they can be presented and fully appreciated\, Rob took up welding and blacksmithing\, attracted by metal’s strength and contrasting properties. As a self-taught artist fuelled by curiosity\, Rob increasingly gravitated towards working with metal and became intrigued by the possibilities of this medium. Amassing an eclectic collection of found metal objects\, he creates one-of-a-kind figurative sculptures while preserving the natural patina of these objects as a historical record of their life. “The long history of mining and forestry in The Kootenays provides for a wide variety of materials to be gathered; industrial salvage scattered in many unexpected places\, hidden and sometimes buried treasures”\, Rob reflects. \nRob’s biggest challenge often lies in safely harvesting and transporting these pieces back to his studio. You may happen upon him in the early morning hours\, walking remote trails while lugging unwieldy pieces of wood\, steel or stone. The discovery of new materials and shapes serves as a catalyst for his creative exploration. Rob is drawn to adventure both in the natural world and the realm of creativity\, always wondering “What if I …?” \nWithin this exhibit\, Rob joins together his enjoyment in the creative process with his love for nature. By incorporating spherical shapes\, such as stones and steel balls\, Rob introduces contrast\, while alluding to the start of spring and new life.
