SUMMARY:Hermitude Live At Bloom Nightclub
DESCRIPTION:Hermitude is an award-winning\, chart-topping production duo consisting of Australian multi-instrumentalists Luke Dubs and El Gusto (aka Angus Stuart). Active since the early 2000s\, the pair have crafted an ever-exploratory body of work blending hip-hop\, funk\, dubstep\, and pop\, informed by their frequent international touring and life experiences. While hard to pin down to one specific style\, their music is always rich\, positive\, and forward-thinking. Hermitude’s first full-length\, 2003’s Alleys to Valleys\, introduced their laid-back\, organic style of hip-hop and down-tempo grooves. With 2005’s Tales of the Drift\, they began adding more live instruments to their sound\, particularly inspired by Cuban music. Since then\, their music has grown more bass-heavy and futuristic\, and their worldwide audience has grown exponentially. Delving into trap\, glitch\, and post-dubstep\, the duo’s 2015 full-length Dark Night Sweet Light was their first to reach the top of the Australian albums chart\, as well as their first to receive an international release. \nShapes Presents \nHermitude \nWith Special Guests \n19+ \nBloom Nighclub\, Nelson. \n10pm-2am

DESCRIPTION:Lucas Myers: Roof – CAPITOL SEASON\nAdult $28\n30 and Under $25.50 \nIn ROOF\, a humorous yet socially conscious one-person show\, Lucas Myers weaves together elements of stand-up comedy\, physical theatre\, and his trademark brand of observational humor to tell the story of Dave and Stevie. \nDave is a highly successful real estate agent who is living the dream: hot car\, great kids\, beautiful wife\, gorgeous sound system\, designer kitchen. Just as he is about to launch his own self-improvement video series\, #HiMyNameIsDave\, he discovers major issues with his roof and cracks begin to form in his perfect world. Enter Stevie\, a journeyman roofer with aspirations of being a stand-up comic\, who is the only person capable of dealing with Dave’s narcissistic hyper vigilance. As they attempt to collaborate on the roof project\, Stevie forces Dave to confront his shortcomings and come to terms with what being a good person really means. SUMMARY:HALEY BLAIS
DESCRIPTION:Haley Blais is a Vancouver-based singer-songwriter who has turned out defiant\nscream-into-your-pillow pop songs since 2014. Blais developed a community and fanbase as a teenager almost a decade ago with her diaristic YouTube videos and tender ukulele covers. Since then\, Blais has traded the solo ukulele for a guitar and a five-piece band. In 2020\, Blais released a debut full-length album of jangly pop anthems\, Below the Salt\, produced with indie staples Tennis and Louise Burns. The debut amassed millions of streams and avid support from publications like NPR\, NYLON\, and i-D\, leading to sell-out shows in the UK\, Europe and USA.

SUMMARY:Highbar Gang
DESCRIPTION:Since the band was formed in the summer of 2010\, the High Bar Gang has been bringing its unique take on old time bluegrass to the people of Western Canada.\nVocal harmony is key to the band’s sound\, and the blend of Shari Ulrich\, Wendy Bird and Kirby Barber along with guitarist Barney Bentall and banjo player Dave Barber is simply stunning. Supported by Rob Becker on bass\, and Colin Nairne on guitar and mandolin\, the band’s repertoire stays mostly rooted in the golden age of bluegrass music with songs by the likes of Bill Monroe\, The Stanley Brothers and Del McCoury. \nHighlights for the High Bar Gang include opening for Canadian music icons Blue Rodeo at Vancouver’s Malkin Bowl\, and the many sold out shows they have played throughout Western Canada\, including the prestigious Cedar Creek Winery Concert series and the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt. From the Brackendale Art Gallery and Victoria’s famous Butchart Gardens to Vancouver’s International Jazz Festival and San Francisco’s legendary Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, the band has built a solid reputation for their wonderfully upbeat brand of old time bluegrass and stories. \nIn 2013 the band signed a record deal with True North Records resulting in the release of their debut recording “Lost and Undone: A Gospel Bluegrass Companion”. Along with extensive airplay in Europe as well as in North America\, the album garnered several award nominations in 2014 including a Juno Award nomination in the ‘Contemporary Christian/Gospel’ category as well as a Western Canadian Music Award nod in the ‘Spiritual’ category. The High Bar Gang went on to be nominated for three Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2014 and won that year for Best Vocal Group.\nThe summer of 2015 saw the band return to performing with appearances at Vancouver Island Musicfest\, Harrison Festival\, West Vancouver’s Harmony Arts Festival and in Toronto at Panamania for the 2015 Panam Games. \nIn early 2016 the band finished their sophomore recording ‘Someday the Heart will Trouble the Mind’ with engineer Dave Meszaros at Watershed Productions in Vancouver. Also released on True North Records the album was nominated for a Juno Award in the Traditional Roots Album of the Year. The band played several sold out shows in 2016 and 2017 including the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver and a return engagement at the Raven’s Cry Theatre. \nThe spring of 2018 HBG made the trip across the mountains to do shows in Alberta\, including two shows in Calgary for the Foothills Bluegrass Society and another in Bragg Creek. Moving into\n2019 the HBG visited Vancouver Island twice\, Langley\, Bowen Island and Brackendale\, and started writing their first album of original songs.\nLike most people and practically all musicians and bands\, the HBG hunkered down during the pandemic/lockdown. Winter of 2021 finds them continuing working on the new record as well performing live once again in the spring of 2022. \n  \nCapitol Theatre\, Nelson. \nTickets $44.50
