SUMMARY:“Uno” by Raul Pous Facha
DESCRIPTION:Meet Raul: Architect\, Artist\, and Digital Fabrication Visionary\n\n\n\n“I’m Raul\, an architect and artist of Mexican origin\, now based in Canada since 2022. My lifelong fascination with materials and manufacturing techniques has deeply influenced my approach to design. While I’ve always appreciated the artistry and individuality of handmade products\, I’ve also recognized the challenges they face in achieving precision and consistent quality.\n\n\n\nThis curiosity led me to digital fabrication\, where I discovered the power to translate complex designs into reality with precision and control. Through the fusion of technology and craftsmanship\, I am able to create pieces that retain the unique essence of handmade work while elevating their quality and accuracy.”\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: March 10 – 20\, 2025\n\n\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, March 13 from 4:00pm-5:30pm\n\n\n\nGallery Hours: Monday-Friday\, 12pm-4pm\n\n\nTo learn more\, visit us at: https://visacgallery.com/exhibitions/#unoraulpousfacha

SUMMARY:Sarah Orton at Grist and Mash Brewery
DESCRIPTION:LIVE MUSIC: Thursday May 29th 7-9pm Sarah Orton returns to the Pine Box Stage at Grist & Mash Brewery.\nhttps://www.sarahortonvoice.com/music\n\nSarah’s early exposure to mainstream pop music as a child of the 90s\, the blues and rock’n’roll cassette tapes on rotation in the Ford Bronco driven by her hippy parents\, and her enigmatic Russian Doukhobor ancestry—a heritage preserved through psalm singing—all had a significant impact shaping her musical journey. Developing singing and performance as a profoundly spiritual and creative form of expression.\n\nBecause of this\, she has forged varying paths in the music industry as a versatile and dynamic vocalist\, songwriter\, nascent producer\, and diverse collaborator. The fruits of her labour can be heard in the alt-soul 4-piece collective Penny Shades\, with two self-produced EP’s backed by FACTOR Canada and Creative BC\, and performances at Kootenay Summer Festival favourites Kaslo Jazz Etc. Festival\, Starbelly Jam\, and Nelson International Music Festival.\nNo stranger to the big stage\, Orton can also be found supporting vocals in nationally renowned electro-folk act Moontricks; Headlining numerous music festivals and sold-out venues in Western Canada\, such as Vancouvers legendary Commodore Ballroom\, Winnipeg Folk Fest\, Shambhala Music Festival\, Constellation Festival\, and Rifflandia.\nWith a full solo album brewing behind the scenes and a summer of festival shows ahead\, you’ll be glad to have stumbled onto the powerful and soulful timbre of Sarah in her most cherished place: song

SUMMARY:Fireworks: Shifting Sound
DESCRIPTION:Fireworks: Shifting Sound\nA Mass Choir Experience Like No Other\nPresented by the Capitol Theatre | Directed by Allison Girvan \nNow in its 5th year\, Fireworks is a powerful\, one-of-a-kind community singing event that brings together hundreds of voices for a single\, breathtaking performance. Conceived and directed by beloved choral leader Allison Girvan and produced by the Capitol Theatre\, Fireworks celebrates the transformative power of collective singing. “Group singing has long been one of the fastest ways to cement community\,” says Girvan. “It’s incredibly moving to be able to share this experience again.” \nThe name Fireworks captures the essence of the event: brilliant\, intense\, and fleeting. While participants prepare individually in the weeks leading up to the performance\, the full group – this year over 325 singers strong – will meet together for the very first time on the day of the show. After a single rehearsal\, they will step into the echoing acoustics of the Nelson and District Community Complex to share their voices with the audience in one unforgettable half hour performance. \nThis year’s piece\, titled Shifting Sound\, reflects on change\, connection\, and diversity. Through a rich tapestry of perspectives\, voices\, and rhythms\, it reminds us that to sing together is to listen deeply\, breathe as one\, and create something far greater than ourselves. As the lyrics of one of the songs declares: “when you band together\, it’s a choir of thunder and rain – and now we have a choice\, because I have a voice.” Whether you’re a seasoned music lover or simply curious\, if you’ve never experienced a mass choir live – prepare to be swept away.\nThis show is supported by the BC Arts Council and Canadian Heritage. \nTickets $15
