SUMMARY:Creston - CanFilmDay free movie screening: YOUNGBLOOD
DESCRIPTION:National Canadian Film Day (CanFilmDay) is a massive\, coast-to-coast-to-coast salute to Canadian cinema! Launched in 2014\, CanFilmDay has brought together hundreds of thousands of Canadians\, to celebrate our stories and the incredible achievements of our filmmakers. \nThe Creston Valley Public Library is participating again for our fourth annual free film screening in conjunction with National Canadian Film Day. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, April 15th at 7pm for a free screening of the Canadian film YOUNGBLOOD\, directed by Hubert Davis\, starring Shawn Doyle\, Ashton James\, and Blair Underwood. \n“Dean Youngblood\, a top hockey prospect in the minor leagues\, faces the prospect of his career ending early when he’s suspended for an on-ice incident. Given a new chance on a new team\, he has to face his aggression head-on to get back on track and lead his team to a championship. \nDrawing inspiration from the 80s cult classic of the same name\, Director Hubert Davis expertly captures the drama both on and off the ice\, with incredible performances and exhilarating hockey sequences.” \n“In an age when sports movies often feel either overly sentimental or clumsily macho\, ‘Youngblood’ finds a refreshing sweet spot that’s emotionally intelligent\, grounded\, and deeply human.” — Louisa Moore\, Screen Zealots \nFree to attend\, all are welcome.\nfree popcorn! \nthis movie is rated PG.

SUMMARY:*Cancelled* Paint It Black: overcoming perfection with Nik Black
DESCRIPTION:Regrettably\, this event has been cancelled.\nNow in its fourth year\, Nik Black will be hosting this online only event. Open to any artist who wishes to overcome the burden of perfection and make some really unusual work\, in a safe and supportive environment. \nIt begins with a live opening chat with the artist\, a review of the materials that could be used\, and a first few marks. Nik will answer your questions and offer some tips on how to navigate the rush of art making/destruction. \nThe only supplies needed are ones you already have\, and a tool of obliteration. Nik uses black paint and after 14 days of creating goes live to destroy everything. (These papers are then utilized in other projects\, we will talk about this too!) \nThis process is based on an exercise found in Art and Fear a book by David Bayles. This is suggested reading before or during the event. Please focus on the many pots vs single pot discussion. \nDiscover how destruction can free you from perfectionism and reignite your passion to play

SUMMARY:Rossland - The Poetic Body Larval Mask Workshop: Elaine Weryshko
DESCRIPTION:May 16th and 17th\, 2026 \n10:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day \nLooking for something fun to do this May long weekend? The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture is excited to present The Poetic Body with Larval Mask Workshop\, led by Winlaw resident Elaine Weryshko! \nEnter the strange\, simple\, and magnetic world of Larval Masks. Rooted from the winter carnival of Basel\, Switzerland and reimagined by Jacques Lecoq\, these oversized\, beginnings of life masks are a gateway to embodiment\, archetype\, non-verbal storytelling and dream space. This is physical poetry\, where breath\, stillness\, and silhouette speak louder than words. \nLarval work sharpens the performer’s ability to explore presence; by stripping back\, listening with the body\, and building story from tension\, space\, and rhythm with the unknown. \nIdeal for performers\, educators\, writers\, and anyone curious about the full-body language beneath text. The full-faced mask is a revelation and invitation to encounter the architecture of play and possibility. \nJoin this amazing 12-hours over two days workshop for just $50! Registration below. \nThis workshop is a part of our new series\, May Music & More. For more information about the other events in the series\, please see our events page. \nAll ages\, but 18+ recommended.

SUMMARY:Creston - Skill Share: Visible Mending + Creative Alteration
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of community\, crafty mending\, and thoughtful discussion. \nSkillShare Saturday events are built around the idea that everybody is an expert at something\, and we all benefit when we have opportunities to learn from one another. These creative mending events welcome folks at all skill levels to bring their projects and either seek advice and tips or show off their skills a little bit. We often end up helping one another problem solve a tricky mend or get inspired to finally tackle those little tasks that never seem to reach the top of the to-do list. \nWe will have a selection of essential supplies on hand\, but if your project requires something very specific\, it’s probably best to bring it along. We will also have some reference resources available to help us with the technical questions. \nThis is an adult programming event. All experience levels welcome & kids accompanied by a participating adult are welcome.
