DESCRIPTION:“Changing Seasons Across the Kootenays” A Solo Exhibit by Kimberley Artist Lynne Zentner Now Showing at Art Gallery Kimberley \nWe are proud to present “Changing Seasons Across the Kootenays\,” a serene and heartfelt solo exhibition by local artist Lynne Zentner\, available from May 15 through June 8\, 2025. \nLynne’s collection pays tribute to the beauty and diversity of the four seasons in the Kootenays. Rooted in her deep connection to nature\, each landscape painting is a visual love letter to the forests and mountain views she’s encountered during her many hours of “forest bathing\,” solo camping\, hiking\, and skiing across the region. Her acrylic paintings capture not only the changing colours of the seasons\, but also the mood and atmosphere of being lost in nature. \n“I hope some of the love and beauty I’ve poured into my work will leak through to the viewer\,” says Lynne\, “and maybe even inspire a smile!” \nBorn on the wide-open prairies\, Lynne’s artistic adventure began against a vast natural backdrop and blossomed into a professional career quite literally painting backgrounds bringing animated worlds to life as an artist and colour designer. With over 15 years in the Ottawa animation industry—including work with Funbag\, Lacewood\, and Hinton Animation for productions like Flash Gordon\, Anthony Ant\, and Watership Down—she has mastered a wide range of media and styles. Since changing careers and becoming an English language teacher\, she has embraced landscape painting as her way of sharing her vision of the world. \nWhy should you visit? Because this exhibit is more than beautiful art—it’s a celebration of the wild\, magical place we call home represented in paintings that invite visitors to experience the seasons of the Kootenays through the eyes—and heart—of a passionate local artist. \nEveryone is invited to the opening reception on Thursday\, May 15\, 2025 at 7 pm. DESCRIPTION:Fireworks: Shifting Sound\nA Mass Choir Experience Like No Other\nPresented by the Capitol Theatre | Directed by Allison Girvan \nNow in its 5th year\, Fireworks is a powerful\, one-of-a-kind community singing event that brings together hundreds of voices for a single\, breathtaking performance. Conceived and directed by beloved choral leader Allison Girvan and produced by the Capitol Theatre\, Fireworks celebrates the transformative power of collective singing. “Group singing has long been one of the fastest ways to cement community\,” says Girvan. “It’s incredibly moving to be able to share this experience again.” \nThe name Fireworks captures the essence of the event: brilliant\, intense\, and fleeting. While participants prepare individually in the weeks leading up to the performance\, the full group – this year over 325 singers strong – will meet together for the very first time on the day of the show. After a single rehearsal\, they will step into the echoing acoustics of the Nelson and District Community Complex to share their voices with the audience in one unforgettable half hour performance. \nThis year’s piece\, titled Shifting Sound\, reflects on change\, connection\, and diversity. Through a rich tapestry of perspectives\, voices\, and rhythms\, it reminds us that to sing together is to listen deeply\, breathe as one\, and create something far greater than ourselves. As the lyrics of one of the songs declares: “when you band together\, it’s a choir of thunder and rain – and now we have a choice\, because I have a voice.” Whether you’re a seasoned music lover or simply curious\, if you’ve never experienced a mass choir live – prepare to be swept away.\nThis show is supported by the BC Arts Council and Canadian Heritage. \nTickets $15
