SUMMARY:Spring Break Photography Camp with Charlotte Truant (Ages 9-13)
DESCRIPTION:Join instructor Charlotte Truant for a week of photography exploration. Participants will be provided with DSLR cameras\, learning to take photos both indoors and outdoors. Each day will begin and end at the VISAC Gallery. Depending on weather\, they may take excursions around Trail to capture photos outdoors\, or in other buildings. Kids will be provided with a scrap book and tools to create and display their beautiful photo creations\, as well as access to a printer to print out their photos. \nWhen: March 17 – 21\, 2025 @ 9:00am-12:00pm \nDuration: 5 days \nAges: 9-13 \nClass Fee: $300 \nAbout Charlotte Truant: Located in the beautiful West Kootenays of British Columbia\, Canada. I actually went to school for dental assisting and I’m a self taught photographer. I had my first little and knew I didn’t want to go back to work. During my maternity leave\, I started a Social media marketing business where I purchased my first camera (Canon Rebel t5i) so that I could take better photos for the businesses that I was running social media for. SUMMARY:Dark Chapters opening reception
DESCRIPTION:The Dark Chapters project encompasses the renowned career of Métis artist and educator David Garneau\, through the dual lens of exhibition and publication. The book\, Dark Chapters: Reading the Still Lives of David Garneau\, invites 17 Canadian artists and academics to write a response – poetry\, creative writing\, critical essay – to one of Garneau’s vast collection of still life paintings. The exhibition features works from the publication as well as additional pieces chosen by Garneau. Dark Chapters offers myriad ways to investigate how the written word can implicate\, illuminate\, and interpret artworks. \nDark Chapters opens on Friday\, March 21 at 7pm featuring an artist talk with Garneau and essay contributor Fred Wah. This event is free and open to the public. \nDavid Garneau (Métis) is a Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Regina. He is a painter\, curator\, and writer who engages creative and critical expressions of Indigenous contemporary ways of knowing\, being\, and doing. In 2023\, he received the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Art: Outstanding Achievement and was inducted into the Royal Society of Canada.
