DESCRIPTION:During the height of the Cold War\, in the 1950s and 1960s\, nearly 50 bunkers were constructed across Canada. In 2017\, the Nelson Museum began work on restoring the space and opening it to the public. You can join a tour of one of the Museumʼs best-loved spaces! \nFrom iodine pills and Geiger counters to board games and ashtrays\, visitors get a glimpse of the vast measures taken to create normalcy in an extraordinary time. \nEmail info@nelsonmuseum.ca to register. DESCRIPTION:Carter Felker traffics in music\, yes\, but even more profoundly in essence: the humdrum essence of Monday morning alarms clocks coming round again during lifetimes ticking on through thoughtless dawn moments walking across the kitchen floor; the craven essence of sneaking wordlessly away from a relationship and feeling the mute screen door sag shut behind you; the essence of everyday struggle \nCalgary’s Amy Nelson is a conduit of voices from the past\, reverentially channeling the sounds of depression-era blues and Appalachian mountain music. ‘Educated Woman’ the debut album is hot off the press and both Vinyl/CD’s will be in attendance. \nCalling Calgary home\, the couple are both incredible songwriters in their own right\, releasing individual solo albums and touring together in support of one another. Carter walks the line between classics like Arlo Guthrie and modern day troubadours like Ryan Bingham\, while Amy channels the spirit (and voices) of Appalachian folk heroes like Lily May Ledford and Olla Belle Reed and country legends Loretta Lynn and June Carter. Both sing of the state of everyday life from unique\, but parallel perspectives.
