SUMMARY:The Winter Group Show
DESCRIPTION:The << Winter Group Show >> is an exhibition & sale of fine artworks by artists represented at Studio Connexion Art Gallery in Nakusp. More than 25 artists from the region and across Canada are represented at the quaint gallery. Landscapes are favoured by the curator but some wildlife and abstract are displayed and available as well. The Winter Group Show is already under way and runs through January 28. Studio Connexion Art Gallery is open Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. Private appointments can be arranged as well.

SUMMARY:Neal Panton: Sense of Place
DESCRIPTION:How do we experience and make meaning of a particular place? For me I use my camera lens to create connections to a place. \nPhotography nurtures my feeling of belonging in this world. It is this deeper emotional connection that makes these places worth caring about\, and that encourages my ongoing stewardship to my natural surroundings. \nThis collection represents my own sense of place. \nNeal Panton is a fine art photographer who specializes primarily in landscapes. He favours large-format prints and panoramas. Neal has been photographing since 1984 exhibiting since 1992 and is primarily self-taught. He has won or been nominated for over a dozen awards\, some in the Columbia Basin region\, others from Europe and the USA.He has worked as a photojournalist for Reuters\, taught photography and visual literacy\, been published in over 25 countries\, had 16 solo exhibits and 59 group exhibits in Canada\, Europe\, the United States\, and South America\, and self-published eight books showcasing his images. Neal is represented by Turning Art and Glasshouse Images in the USA. In Canada Neal is represented by Art Gallery Kimberley at The Laundromat.

DESCRIPTION:Kristy Gordon online Portrait Painting Workshop – via Zoom\, January 27 – 28\, 10:00 – 4:00Cost: $215.00Hello fellow painters!Register soon if you are interested in participating in Kristy Gordon’s online portrait painting workshop\, to be offered January 27 and 28 from 10:00 – 4:00. Registration closes this Friday January 20. Kristy is an internationally renowned artist who divides her time between Nelson and New York. To hold your place in the workshop please contact Ilse Murray at murray.ilse@gmail.com.Below is Kristy’s description for the workshop:“This online workshop will guide students of all levels through the creation of a well-structured alla prima portrait painting with convincing flesh tones. We will begin by discussing comparative measuring\, to get accurate proportions in the underpainting. Then we will move to colour and concentrate on how to render form and construct the features. Participants can use any medium they like in this course. Kristy will be doing the demo in oils and will provide a suggested supplies list for those interested in using oils. By the end of the course students will have a painting that they’re proud of as well as a solid understanding of how to mix colours. The class will include demonstrations\, discussions and individual instruction and feedback. The beginner will learn fundamental principles such as how to mix colours and render form modelling. Please prepare two portions of vocal selections\, one of your choosing and one from the show. You may be asked to only sing one\, or both songs. You may sing your selection acapella or with a backing track that you provide. You do NOT have to prepare full songs\, a verse and chorus is great. There will be a brief reading from the show that we will provide you with at the audition. There will also be a dance component that our choreographer will walk you through during your audition.
