33 CHRIS ROOKWOOD POTTERY

FUNCTIONAL & SCULPTURAL POTTER

I am an artist and maker and excited to be opening my studio in the woods for the tour. I will be working when you visit and happy to demonstrate and talk about my process of creating functional and sculptural pottery and ceramic art. I am influenced by internal and external experiences: a melancholic mood; a soft snowfall; waves and blue hues of the lake; contrasting raw dark clay with coloured glazes. Using handcrafted items can give joy to everyday moments: cradling the texture of a beautiful mug when enjoying your morning coffee, or eating on uniquely crafted plates and bowls. I look forward to meeting you!

Address:
1331 Kai Rd., Nelson

Directions:
Use GPS for accuracy. Coming from Taghum turn right; from Nelson turn left onto Insight Dr.; turn first left onto Kai Rd.; four switchbacks up; studio on right-hand side; will be clearly signed.

34 EMOTIONS IN WOOD

WOODWORK; HOMEWARE PRODUCTS; BEEHIVES

Meet Philippe, artisan ebenist at Emotions in Wood’s workshop and gallery in Salmo.

Bringing art into everyday life is his mission. He does that by turning functional objects into works of art that spark sensual pleasure and uplift the spirit.

With Philippe’s creativity and skills, butter dishes, magnetic knife racks, cutting boards, jewellery boxes, coasters and pieces of furniture like French coat racks, tables and benches become true works of art.

Discover also the other side of Philippe’s passion: he makes beehives in kits and components. They are a big favourite of backyard beekeepers, renowned for their quality and design. Philippe does custom design if needed.

We invite you to step inside the gallery, a room facing nature, where beautiful wood is glorified from wall to wall. Discover as well several of Philippe’s creations that incorporate the stunningly artistic metalwork from Salmo Metal Art Studio, or beautiful landscapes from Lebeau, a Creston artist.

Philippe is also a member of the international artisan network Artisans at Work/Économusée, and will welcome you warmly in either English or French.

36 CANCELLED: ATELIER LARS BAGGENSTOS

LIVE CARVING & SCULPTING

My artistic creativity and stimuli revolve around the questions I have about human and wildlife coexistence and the friction it causes. It is an instinctive and expressive approach, where the process is still visible in the finished piece. The pieces are figurative and multi-textural; hand-hewn cuts, scratches and deep scrapes guide the viewer’s eye to the carefully finished areas of the sculptures.

Address:
216 Porcupine Rd., Ymir

Second property on left after bridge over Salmo River.
