10 CANCELLED: JENNIFER MCCAW AT SLOCAN VALLEY THREADS GUILD
JEWELLERY; STAR MAPS
Hi! I am Jennifer McCaw, a silversmith obsessed with outer space and rare gemstones. I create celestial terrestrial talismans, jewellery that connects you to the cosmos.
Using solid sterling silver and gold, and precious and semiprecious gemstones, I create jewellery featuring constellations, zodiac, planets and comets. Some pieces have kinetic components, moons or asteroids, which spin or move.
Constellations are on the front or back or the ring band. With these celestial maps, you can look up to the night sky and find your place under the stars. My hope is for a future archaeologist to find one of these artifacts and realize it is a map of the heavens.
I hand-make each one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery, using hand tools, a torch and ancient jewellery techniques, and I source rare and unusual gemstones for each star map.
For the Columbia Basin Culture Tour, I will be showcasing my jewellery at the Slocan Valley Threads Guild, Hwy. 6 and Perry’s Back Rd., Appledale.
If you see something you love, these celestial adornments will be available for purchase; please bring cash as there is no cell service here.
I look forward to chatting with you about stars and gems and jewellery!

11 LISA HUTH
BLACKSMITHING; WELDING
Lisa was born and raised in the Okanagan, where she discovered a love for metalwork. She studied welding at Okanagan College in Kelowna. She also took instruction under master blacksmith Joe Delisimunovic in Vernon to learn the lost art of blacksmithing.
Then, in 2003, Lisa started her own business. Later, in 2015, after starting a family, Lisa and her husband had a strong desire to raise their children in a smaller town, which led them to the Kootenays. They now live on a small acreage on the outskirts of Castlegar.
Lisa finds inspiration from nature, the beautiful curves in plants and the unique details of animals. She loves the challenge that metal provides and the huge satisfaction of bending and forming it to her desired shape.

12 LUMINOUS CREATRIX
SCULPTURE; POTTERY
Theresa Swan of Luminous Creatrix draws on ancient artistic expression to articulate a celebration of soul life and the power of mother nature. She deeply believes that since all culture is created, we have the power to recreate a lense that honours the life force in all. The last 5,000 years of dominance and violence is a blip in time—we can remember our heart’s connection, our irreverent reverence and playful belonging to all that is. Using clay, stone and mixed media, she explores psyche and spirit in sculpture. She also dabbles in functional pottery and jewellery. Beauty medicine delights the goddess!

14 RIVER & ROSE STUDIO
POTTERY; SUCCULENT SCULPTURES; ART; CLAY
River & Rose Studio is my clay and art studio where I explore the endless possibilities of creative process. I assemble wheel-thrown forms into unique and functional sculptures. Playing with the subtle variations of wee bowls and bottles brings me joy. I like to make one-of-a-kind pieces that make the ordinary extraordinary, and turn our daily routines, like morning coffee or adding a pinch of salt, into playful rituals. My addiction to succulents has inspired me to create a series of succulent sculptures!
For the Columbia Basin Culture Tour, River & Rose Studio will have an outdoor display and sale of clay art, succulent sculptures and pottery. There will be an art zone where all are invited to collage, doodle, paint and contribute to a mural.

17 BARBARA LEGG
ACRYLIC & PASTEL PAINTINGS
I am excited to invite you to my studio on my property in sunny Brilliant during the Columbia Basin Culture Tour.
As a long-time resident of the Kootenays, I am inspired by the changing landscapes and unique history of the area.
I am an avid reader and community musician and I approach my art like a storyteller, hoping to achieve an emotional response.
Although my usual medium is acrylic, I also do chalk pastel portraits and I welcome commissions.
All my original paintings will be available for purchase, as well as a variety of art cards. I have a book entitled Music and the Beast, a compilation of my poetry and art, which can be purchased.
While strolling through my garden, you will see a carousel-inspired gazebo, a trompe-l’oeil and a few whimsical characters.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing my love of art.

20 BARBARA BROWN AT KOOTENAY GALLERY
OIL PAINTING; NEW BOOK; POETRY; FILM
This summer I am so excited to be launching Volume II, SYLVAN REFLECTIONS: Wanderings, Paintings and Ponderings From the Forest, along with a new film and an exhibition of my whole series of 32 forest paintings, in Castlegar at Kootenay Gallery. I will be in attendance there throughout the Culture Tour weekend with books, miniature paintings, cards and prints for sale.
With my work I share the beauty and the wonder to be found in the forest. I paint in oil on canvas and each of my forest paintings incorporates a bit of mysticism or symbolism—sometimes hidden, always spellbinding—to express the magic of the wild woods. My poetry is meditative and philosophical and brings you into connection with nature. In the film, ON BEAUTY, As We Come to It in the Forest, we “revel in the beauty of nature and ponder the nature of beauty.”
This exhibition, and the launch of the book and film, are dreams come true for me and I can’t wait to share it all with you. Come find me, I would so love to see you there!
