100: TRACEY HALLADAY PHOTOGRAPHY

Black & white photography; Landscape & wildlife photography
Imagine being told suddenly that the life you had been living for over 40 years was gone. Overnight things were different. No longer able to see clearly where your life was going, surrounded by a storm. Darkness with flashes of light. Fog, sometimes so thick you were straining to make something out in the distance. I was diagnosed suddenly with kidney failure in fall 2014 and started dialysis within 24 hours. After four years of declining health, I had accepted death. Amazingly, a month later I received a second chance at life from a deceased donor kidney transplant. While recovering, I realized I saw the world in a whole new way than I did previously. Through the Mist is a series that I was driven to capture those glimpses of life visible through the mist, haze, cloud… It was exactly how I was feeling.

102: FERNIE ARTS CO-OP

Photography; Painting; Pottery; Jewellery
The Fernie Arts Co-op was formed in 2001 by a small, diverse group of Fernie arts- and craft-makers in need of a retail outlet to share and sell their wares. In 2005, the artists moved into their current location on 2 Avenue in the historical Minifies building in downtown Fernie. In 2006, the organization gained BC Co-operative status and became governed by the Co-operative Act and a rotating board of member-elected directors. As an artist-run space, members volunteer as store attendants, giving our customers an opportunity to meet the maker and providing insight on creative processes and local knowledge about the landscapes featured. The gallery has grown professionally over the years to be locally renowned as the premiere outlet for local Fernie art. Today, our shop features 40+ artists and makers who offer paintings, photography, pottery, jewellery, textile art, handmade soaps and home products, candles, glassworks and multimedia works, which are on display seven days a week.
