Debra paints western toads as she believes they see themselves: as exquisite and wise creatures, full of beauty and magic! Their strong bond with water keeps them close to mother nature, and the power of rebirth. Toads are often portrayed in tales of dark, mysterious and supernatural forces, where they symbolize transformation. Listen to the croaking song of frogs and toads, and let it speak to you of cleansing, harmony and new life!

86: THE OPAL DOOR (NIK BLACK)

Contemporary; Vibrant; Landscape; Acrylic

Nik is a queer, disabled, self-taught artist who learned through their family that art flows more surely through their veins than blood. They love a great trail, lush gardens, beaches, waterfalls and reflective lakes. Nik is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast who moved to the Columbia Basin after living on the coast for 30 years. Their work encompasses landscapes from the Kootenays, Vancouver Island, the West Coast, and the prairies where they spent their childhood. These days, Nik travels mostly in their mind and memories. Their disability keeps them out of the public, yet being an extrovert means they are always willing to explore new ways of interacting with their community. Nik’s art will always be a reflection of what they’re seeking within their heart. For the Columbia Basin Culture Tour, they will attend virtually while live-streaming from their studio, the Opal Door.
