63: LIDA GALLERY (MARIA MONTANO)

Oil painting; Pottery; Jewellery
Lida Gallery and Gift Shop is in its third year of running, showcasing the work of its owner Garth Low, who specializes in oil painting and pottery, while also offering handmade jewellery by his wife. Located in South Gray Creek on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake, the gallery enjoyed a good season last year and hopes to see many visitors this year and in the future. When entering the Lida Gallery, one is treated to a variety of landscape paintings of the local area and southern Alberta, with pottery and jewellery tastefully arranged throughout the gallery. The paintings are generally very rich in detail and reflect the artist’s interest in the local environment; they typically show lake and mountain scenes emphasizing light, colour and depth. The pottery in the shop consists of a variety of flower vases, planters, bowls, casseroles and cups, all food-safe. Says the artist: “I like to create different forms and use different clays and glazes when producing the work. The glazes are made from raw materials in the shop and I enjoy combining different glazes to achieve various results.”
